An individual accomplishment deserves equal or better recognition than a team effort.

[Just for the record -- there was a 'World Champ' in Sri Lanka by the name of M. J. M. Laffir. [The First & ONLY world Champ to-date] I'm sure for most of you it wouldn't even ring a bell. He was the World Champ in 'Billiards' & got the fastest 850 + break whilst achieving same. But IMO he didn't get the recognition he deserved. Brought it up - just to state the same would happen to this guy too ]

Full credit must go to Dian Gomes for this, if Manju Wanniarachi was in any other company either he would have been fired or not allowed to take so many days off just to practice boxing...

This just goes to show how many more talented people in this country dont get that type of chance and just get wasted away in some far off village...

Heard the bad news? Manju has tested positive for a banned drug and further bad news is that if the B sample too is tested positive -- it wont be challenged by S.L & Ministry will launch its own probe {JNW news].

there was a coffee table book by MAS about the sports people they have nurtured; one of the stories was about a boxer (can't remember the name) who got caught using performance enhancing drugs and he relates how Dian was furious with him for using drugs. However, even if Dian doesn't agree with using drugs, the pressure to produce results may result in some athletes taking the risk... Let's hope the B-sample tests negative.
