Hi folks !

Does anyone know of any good E36 - 325i around in good nick and decent condition? I know these are rare in SL with many 318i around. But does anyone know of any around?

Cheers

Mine's a 323i and it shares the same 2.5 litre engine as the 325i with a slightly different intake manifold setup.

Nope, mine is not for sale at the moment... :)

323i thats even rare than the 325i right.... as of now I know there is a convertible, a black coupe and a blue E36 (coupe/sedan- not sure). All I know abou the difference is both models is that, they both are equipped with a 2.5cc powerplant, but the 323i has more torque, less BHP and a VANOS unit. The Vanos unit adds significantly to the petrol consumption and extra torque.....

any idea of good 325i though.. not to buy... but I am looking around.... just to know how many are around vs. ~25+ 318i in the country....

Cheers

Mines de-badged and blue, Montreal blue that appears purple sometimes as well. You are right,. Its a Single VANOS. and low end Torque is there with only 170bhp where as the 325i has 190bhp. there was a silver 325i for sale sometime ago on the HitAd. not sure if its there still. Check the HitAds from April.

Confused, you are looking for one, but not to buy?

Hi VVTi

Thanks for the reply.... Any reason for de-badging? Is it a sedan / coupe / convertible?

Ok sorry. Did't mean to create any confusion. I saw the 325i for sale back then, it was a sky blue more like a (silver+blue). I have driven a few BMs so far ranging from a red E30, a ruby-black 318i and currently own a 316i white sedan and a 325i black sedan. The 325i is the very last range with the non-vanos 2.5ltr before the 328i was introduced. Just trying to figure out how many more are around?

Its a 4 door sedan, Was debadged since the first owner. Why? I dunno.

Hey VVTI

How much does yours do on fuel in city limits? I just want to do a gut check. Have been going through most BM sites, but most of the conditions driven about talked cars are different to ours.... do you use synthetic oil or mineral (Mobil) engine oil? Also, if you dont mind whats the mileage on yours?

Cheers

Honestly mate, I don't check. I pump a full tank of 95 every week and that's about 60 litres. I might get about 350-400kms between fill ups. I do mostly Colombo running. I once did Colombo-Kurunegala -Colombo with about 1/3 a tank.

I service at Prestige and they use Castrol Edge Sport. 8 litres of it. Mileage is almost 60,000 miles.

slightly OT but is it recommended to use Fully synthetic oil on a high mileage or slightly worn engine?

Hey VVTI

I pump 95 and get ~8+ on mine. Mostly drive during the peak hours. Did Colombo-Habarana-Colombo in just over quarter of a tank driving mostly during the day and doing 100km+ most of the time where possible. I service mine every 3500 miles with Mobil mineral oil, filters, etc @ very well known specialist in Kelaniya. Mines clocked 76000 miles.

Mr Devinda_Z

Hows the Z doing these days? Hopes its doing its high octane rounds in and around Colombo in style. Its been sometime since I saw it, last was during Uni I guess... Yup, mine does ~8+ mate. I don't use synthetic oil although I can benefit from service intervals spanning 10,000 miles between services. I hardly even do half of that in a year and mostly do Colombo driving.... I hate to keep the same oil in the engine for so long as the conditions we drive are totally different to those in forums at most.... I do services between every 3500-4000 miles. Mines done 76000 milles, but thats nothing for this sort of engine as far as I know.... correct me if I am wrong....

Cheers

Debadging = removing the model number (i.e. in case of a BM; removing the 316, 318, etc badges so no one knows what model it is)

Removing all manufacturer logos badges from the car.. lot of 406's in UK are de badged but it's not popular over here. If at all I've seen some de badged Korean, Malaysian made stuff on the roads.
eh?...why do they remove the badges?...whats to be gained by hiding the model of the car?

Dunno mate... mine came like that and the first owner had it debadged from new. I have the original shipping docs from the Munich fcty to CMB .. :)

Sorry mate, the car takes 6.5 litres, I end up buying 2 cans... :) Hence the 8 litres.

This has been serviced at agents from day one and I continued it as well. No plans on dabbling in the synth/mineral debate as at the end of the day, whats good for the car is all that matters. I follow the Service Indicators instead of the dead reckoning based on mileage etc. I had a long chat to the service manager at Prestige and he said as long as the service is done as per fcty recommendations and using fcty recommended stuff, you will be fine. I think its the experimentation and corners that causes a lot of issues for some of us.

What engine do you have? 1/4 tank for that trip is very impressive. :)

No experience with the said specialist. But I know some very unhappy customers... :)

I am sticking with teh agents for critical stuff and DIY for the non-critical stuff. :)

I have the 2.5 ltr non-vanos unit. Yeah I know, it was very impressive indeed. I haven't had any problems with the specialist as yet, although I know of some who have had bad experiences. I haven't had anything major to be done except servicing etc. I get all the genuine parts and haven't cut any corners. So far nothing to complain. Have been going there ever since I had the e30-316i, e36-318i and now. (almost 10 years)

Ok.. so you have the 2.5 on a 318i or a 320i? You have any pics? Is it a E36 or a E46?

Its a original E36–325i black sedan. Haven't done any engine swaps or modifications. 18-9XXX. I use to have a 318 ruby black sedan and E30 in the past. I have a E36–316i and a E36–325i now. Dont have any pics of the 325i. Do you happen to have any of your car? Would love to see some if you have....

assuming the tank is the 60litre one...

that's roughly 15 litres to do 172km's x2

a whopping 22.93 Km's per litre at 100Km+ on a 2.5 litre motor pulling a heavy car :D

impressive figures!!! :D
