Hi guys

what are the DSLR prices currently after the tax cut? I am not too familair with the latest models, looking at a decent not so exensive model only.

Any one can give me an idea of few models and price range? and where to get?

Thanks

i wonder whether there have been any reductions in price of elec items due to tax reductions. at least not of home air conditioners that i compared prices of lately even though the bastards put-up a bloody big board saying they have reduced the prices to reflect the tax cut.

Locally, the places to get are the agents : Metropolitan for Canon, Photo Technica for Nikon and Seidles for Sony. Of the three agents, Metro is probably the best to work with.

There might be cheaper places, like Singapore Trading in MC, Nastars, etc. Warranties/prices will differ. You'll have to check with them.

Models will depend on what you wanna do with it :) SLRs are not real simple do it all things. They specialize. You buy a base body and spec it with lens according to your preference like a car.

Lowest cost models will be the Canon 1000D and 450D, Nikon D5000 and D3000 (I guess) and the Sony Alpha A230 and A330 (Again, I guess)

Also there are the new digital four thirds cameras that might be worth considering depending on what you wanna do.

Tho if you just wanna flexible camera that takes good pictures, does video and has a good zoom range, get a Canon Powershot SX20 IS. It actually looks like a small SLR anyway :)

For sure metro will give a better deal considering the after sale service

Not to mention the fact that a SLR weighs a bloody ton compared to a prosumer. :D

I wouldn't trust any place that advertises a Canon "D1000" or "D40". Canon puts the D after the number, not before.

exactly but so many people get this "D" placement wrong! Oddly enough they tend to follow to Nikon convention and not Canon! :)

anyways...personally i wont be too optimistic in seeing massive reductions on newer DSLR's...

What is the price at Metropolitan? They are the agents for Canon. They quoted Rs.96,000/= for cash and around Rs.100,000/= for credit cards about one and half year back

They quoted 140k two weeks after I got my XSi from the States for 99k. With lens.

But prices drop over time.

These guys only orders from ebay, we have to deal with the others like custom taxes, DOA issues etc.

No warranty is provided.

Once I bought a pocket camcorder from their old website. They used to list prices with all the taxes and shipping. I payed only the listed price (10% advance via paypal and rest when collecting item). Once the item arrived I collected it from their place. They seems to have change that policy with their new website.

I bought a EOS 500D last month with 18-55 lens, 4GB memory and lens cleaning kit for 75K from ebay. But I've shipped it to friend of mine's place at US and he brought it down for me. (It's not because of tax, but I wanted the camera in one piece :D, not sure whether our custom handles those stuff carefully)

Checked the prices of a Canon EOS 450D at Majesti City shop (Cant Remember the name of the shop), they quoted around 85,000/- without warranty and it's with Lens kit.

So.... has anyone been watching the market? Was there a reduction in the prices? I'm interested coz Canon released the 60D yesterday, and if taxes come down on the November budget causing prices to come down around December, I might even consider the agents :D

Instead of a further decrease, I've seen prices go up.

If you check the HitAd for that C*E* place now, the D3000 is at 68k

Several vendors in MC hv told my pal, who went shopping for a prosumer, that the prices dipped but went up by a small amount for all the models - no reason was given.

I'm looking for a new 70-300 VR but none of the prices hv gone down. (70-300 G is now available for around 16k though).

Warranty concerns aside, I'd still purchase from Thailand or Singapore for the price difference.

I actually hvn't bought anything in Malaysia. Didn't see as big a dslr market there are Singapore or Thailand. IMHO, Thailand was cheaper, esp for Nikon's.

But I guess you can haggle a bit, even in some department stores in all 3 countries. :)
