Got a deal for 2.3mil for a 2000cc A33 Manual

@PreseaLover given the circumstances in the country and the fact it places almost 1.3mil lower than the same-aged cars (let's say a Corolla 121 or N16)

do you guys think that this will be a good choice? or am I gonna get f*ed so bad with this choice?

Quick look on the ad sites say they are advertised at around 2.3 million. Realistic moving prices should be around 2 mil. Plus these are not sought after cars. Specially with the fuel prices, not many want these. Also manual will actually decrease the price even further because people who buy these saloons prefer auto.

I’d say it’s worth 1.8 if you bargain right.

Cars go for lot less than the asking price nowadays so a bit of bargaining won't hurt. Also in Sri Lanka, if a car has both auto and manual variants the manuals will almost always fetch a significantly lower price - you can use these for bargining. You won't be f***ed if you manage your expectations. Even if the car is pristine keep a buffer amount for repairs - the car is 20 years old so it will develop a few niggles.

oh how the times have changed. Once upon a time (in fact when these cars and likes of the Vista/Camry were new) the manuals were the pricier option as people were staying away from autos like the plague and the manual ones were rare (relatively speaking because in JPN most of these were sold in AT and the MT passenger variants were less common)

Two factors drove this fear of autos in SL:

1. Autos were prone to break and not many could fix it and maintenance was considered high because it needed fluid changes.

2. Autos were less fuel efficient, which at the time was true as the Autos were not very advanced.
