Frameless Wipers

MAS

Recommended Posts

Haven't used winter wipers but from what I know (and read), they're different. Winter wipers are more bulky and made out of material capable of standing up to very low temperatures. Also, they look frameless because actually the frame is covered using a rubber boot to prevent ice build up withn the frame.

Thanks for that! :)

As this is about wipers i'll ask the question here.

When driving in the rain if i set the A/C to blow to the windshield mist starts forming on the outside and when i turn on wipers it takes the mist along with it and spreads it all over the windshield thus reducing the visibility. Anyone got a solution for this?

Take a bit of vinegar onto a piece of cloth and wipe the rubber of the wiper blade with the cloth. This will recondition the wiper blade and help it clear water/mist better. If this doesn't work, check if its actually mist which is obstructing your view from the outside. There could be an issue with the laminate of your windscreen glass if its a replacement, or chemical residue left behind..? I don't know but it can't be mist, because mist will be wiped away by a wiper in good operational order.

Do i have to apply the vinegar to the wiper blade before going out in the rain or could i do it anytime?

I only get this problem when i set the A/C to blow on to the windshield

and whats that "laminate of your windscreen"? :speechless-smiley-019:

No its a one time fix which you could do any time and should last a little while. Your windscreen is laminated on both sides, so when the glass cracks, it wont immediately fall on you.

I'll try the vingegar method, if it doesnt work i'll change the blades.

Talking about wipers, when do we know when the viper/viper blades needs to be replaced? What are the symptoms of a wiper that needs to be replaced?

Just from the top of my head:

1. Any sign of flaking, cracks, hardening of the rubber element or or when the rubber is powdery

2. When the wipers start to bounce on the windshield as they move about. This needs to be checked to verify if the wiper arm springs are okay or if the arms are correctly bolted onto the shaft.

3. When they squeak or simply don't wipe water off properly

I see.... When it is drizzling, and when i put the wiper when there is less water, i get a squeaky noise, so i wonder if it should be replaced... other than that nothing you spoke about occurs... in that case do we replace only the blades or the entire wiper? they have specific wipers/blades for different cars yeah?

Can happen sometimes IMO. When it's only a slight drizzle, and the windscreen needs to be wiped, I usually turn on the windscreen washer for a few seconds, so that the washer liquid lubricates the windscreen well which allows the wipers to slide along smoothly.

If your car has frameless wipers, you can try locating just the re-fill for it. When I had a set of frameless wipers, I tried but failed to find re-fill. But I remember some members giving out locations from where to get them. If it has regular wiper blades, then you can just replace it with a new wiper blade that comes with the frame.

Make a habit of wiping the windscreen and the wipers (blade part always move from center to ends) with a micro-fiber cloth (better if slightly wet with a mild shampoo) either when you stop at the end of the day or in the morning. Once in couple of weeks wipe the blades with a folded news paper couple of times after a wash to remove any deposits. No more scratched windscreens or squeaky wipers.

Admins, feel free to remove this link, if it breaches forum regulations.. This should be posted on the ebay related thread but posting it here to make a reference to this thread... :)

You don't have to buy Presea specific wipers. All wipers come with different types of adaptors and are compatible with almost all vehicles. Japs for sure. What you need to do is measure the wiper blades (left and right separately, since the sizes can be different) and buy the wipers matching the size(s) on your car.

Also, it doesn't matter if your car currently has frameless wipers or not, you simply have to decide what you want as your new pair. Frameless ones are generally expensive, but look better.

any one experienced this brand before??

Rain x is a good quality brand. I know that they are on sale on a certain deal site. However this particular model is made for all weather purposes, and to handle snow and frost. It has a protective plastic plate on top of it specifically for this reason. Do note that this is not a beam type wiper without the metal frame but just one with a fancy cover. To sum it up: good brand, good quality product, but not worth the price since you can buy a beam type for the same price.
