Hundreds Of Children Reported Killed, More Injured, In Sri Lankan Violence

As much as I want to see the back of the evil LTTE I also dream of a Sri Lankan leader who truly loves our country and will stand up for what is right and not what is popular with the foolish masses. Someone brave enough to stick to firm principals and put the country first, not their pockets.

Have a dream eh? I keep having hopes and keep getting disappointed. Its almost enough to make one loose faith in humanity.

IMO. We need to kill every one of these LTTE bastards slowly in a span of several days for destroying our country. Torture the bastards and drag the bodies behind tanks until there is nothing to drag any more.

i agree with you on this....but i still think its too lenient of a punishment for wrecking havok in our country....

it’s this sort of mentality that helped to spread this problem this deep

Lot has already been said on this topic there’s nothing much left for me to contribute. Just thought to touch base on few things though.

I do think these western countries have a right to poke their nose into our business. They have given us millions and billions of aid money to carry out various development projects. We can’t just beg for their money only when we want something done and then turn a deaf ear when they want us to do something in return. In this global village we are living in, last thing you want is to be isolated. I agree some of their demands are bit unfair and unpractical but we have to atleast show some signs that we are doing our best to accompany them instead of rejecting them point blank.

IMO word organizations i.e. UN and NGO’s are truly powerless. Good example is the current series of incidents involving Omar al-Bashir. He played a direct role in one of the most horrific humanitarian crisis of this decade yet there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

Don’t forget it is with the help of these world organizations that LTTE and their proxy organizations were banned. What more can we ask from them? Hire an army of mercenaries and wage war with LTTE???? Oh sorry forgot India did just that and our people kicked them out.

Last but not least I’ve noticed that certain individuals seem to have a mentality that ‘we’ need to give LTTE their own medicine. Well there’s a massive difference between LTTE killing humans versus SLGov carrying out such actions. LTTE is branded as a terrorist organization they are not recognized by anyone or by any organization as a governing body unlike the democratically elected SL government who actually holds a seat in the UN and who has taken an oath to safeguard its citizens human rights.

you are correct for a certain extend. but don't forget about the anti IPK protests/rallys and boycotting of indian goods by the JVP and other socialist & nationalist groups/supporters. unlike nowadays JVP was a force to be recon with back then.

further on Yala's an Mani's views...

I actually have sympathy for most of those ltte cadres who have not seen anything other than war and most have very little option other than fight for ltte.

Met up with a few ex-ltte child soldiers recently who are under rehab and that rare opportunity gave me a little bit more insight into what this war is all about... At least in those poor people's point of view...

As cruel as it sounds... LTTE leaders should be given worse punishment than just been dragged behind a tank until there's nothing left to drag in my view...

And the only mentality that has helped this problem to spread this deep is the hardline views from both sides of the fence... mainly the foreign ltte supporting diaspora who knows little of whats really going on and those within SL who thinks certain race/religions are superior to others so those minorities should be stomped on...

Its not a case of mentality but an opinion. and if u think this is the casue that the problem ran so deep you my friend are certainly mistaken. wut casued this to run so deep was the half hearted political and military strategies the government took during the span of 20 odd years in facing a determined and well organized terrorist outfit which over the years were able to branch out and succeeded in having international alies supporting there cause. and the growing tamil diaspora stemming from canada, europian union and south india who are keen on having a part of land to call there own at what ever the cost maybe to everyone else. and to put the cherry on top its the various international (but not all)trying there level best stating its for the best interest for the country and its citizens but with an underline intension to financial or political advantage.

I do agree with you that we do have to listen to what the un and us are tellin but we do have to keep in mind that what they are requesting right now MIGHT jus cause the war which might possibly be carried on for another 25 years. from past experience we know that the ltte did nothin but rearm reorganize, recoup from ceasefire agreements and cause havok around the country.

I dont have anything against tamils but i do hate the ltte and anyone supporting an eelam state for the simple reason that if a majority of tamils who are living in the west can get along fine with us and under the same flag i dont see why we need to put up with a minority of extremist trying to seize half of our country and specialy people who would go to the extent of using terrorism to get there own way. i know this might sound blunt but i really dont care whether its a terrorist leader or a cadre for if there on the opposite side you need to consider them as your enemy if not it will be you ending up in a coffin.

but i do agree that for ex soldiers who laid down arms and came to the cleared side that we need to provide them with rehab and compasion and equal rights for they are only human as us and cos that would be the ultimate way of showing these individuals that we can live together and even though the current generation might be tarnished already by the war maybe the next generation would be brought up in a more safe and stable environment.

i dont mean to offend anyone but i just wanted to reply to xxx comment on my previous statment and this is just my opinion.
