Rust

Hi all

Where is the best place to get a full bodyshell retoration for the mini?

to get it into great condition without rust.

email me on [email protected] please

Thanks

How badly is it rusted? If it's very bad. My suggestion is to find imported panels or ever halves of bodies and weld it onto the good part of your one. That would be the easiest and give the best result with all my experience with rust!

If rust is minor then finding a good tinker will be the problem as ever. I know a couple but they are booked into next year.

Hi,

I still admire the classic mini, recently I had a pleasure of seeing one of the last classic mini's produced in the cooper edition, around 1999, it was in super condition, how ever I was dissapointed to see very little had been done to protect all the problem areas despite the technology being freely available!

I would start by stripping the entire car down, remove the interior, engine/gear box, both sub frames including the electrical wiring. This will expose the metal work, look carefully at the a pillars (where the doors are hinged) if possible remove any under seal inside the wheel arches, look also where the rear sub frame is attached to the car as well as the floor pan. Every panel is available here in the uk from specialist Mini suppliers at reasonable cost, look up the internet and you will be amazed, repair what you can and cut away and replace what is too badly gone, then protect all the seams with the best quality seam sealer you can afford, then spray the whole of the under side with paintable body shultz (try 3m) before doing the cosmetics, install all the glass, electrics and the Treated sub frames along with engine/box and enjoy for many years to come!

Also if you can get a good cavity wax like Waxoil spray it into all the cavities to protect the metal inside out, this can really help when it is not possible to reach these areas to protect them.

Maithri.

P.S. Secret is finding a good body work man (tinker) as a muppet will kill the whole job!

Maithri.
