right i downloaded this video and i must say its quite comprehensive (&with over 1 hour of video it should be! :D )

its entitled "GROUP B - The FULL STORY" - and as far as the cars go its just AWESOME

Most of the main cars are coverd

it has everthing from the development to even a Bertone Prototype of the Stratos -& some info about the Fiat Abarth 131 so it covers a number of cars taht preceeded the Group B cars.

The footage of the races is specatcular!

....now this video just sounds too darn perfect to be true your thinking? ...uh well your right..

The voicing is in JAPANESE :(

But

Technical specs of all the cars and the achievments of each are featured at the end in english

if you've got extra bandwidth and don't mind some Jap jabber , you might as well get it , cuz its got some classic rallying footage as well as an idepth look into the cars - even has a crash test of an RS200 !

Fiat? Rallying? I'm missing something here. What do they run?

No, I'm not a follower of Fiat :)

Only in the Euro and Italian Championships with the GPunto S2000. Rumour has it that they want to make a WRC debut in the future. Pity it won't be Lancia though.

But that will probably be JWRC, with FWD and 1.6 N/A engines, right? Not top WRC config.

Yup, Dev, checked it on google and got those pics.

no no!

i'm not sure if it runs in the P-WRC , but the version in question sports a 2.0L Turbo with AWD - all the bits of a modern day rally car :)

an excerpt off the net...

Grande Punto Abarth S2000

The public in Geneva will also be able to admire the extraordinary Grande Punto Abarth S2000. This is a racing car designed for racing stables, which the Fiat Racing Department will be entering in the 2007 Italian Rally Championship with Giandomenico Basso and his navigator Mitia Dotta. Davide Gatti, winner of the 2006 Fiat Abarth International Trophy, will compete at the wheel of an official Fiat Grande Punto R3D with a diesel engine. On the international scene, the Grande Punto Abarth S2000 will compete in the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) with drivers Andrea Navarra, his navigator Guido D'Amore, and young Umberto Scandola and Anton Alen.

The Abarth & C. Spa racing team will be managed by Claudio Berro.

Powered by a 2000 cc aspirated engine that delivers 270 bhp, with 4-wheel drive, the new Grande Punto Abarth S2000 is heir to the version that took the 2006 Italian Rally Championship title with Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, winning 7 of the 11 races on the programme. Nor must we forget the excellent season of their team-mates Andrea Navarra and Guido D'Amore who took third place. Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta won the European title and the International Rally Challenge.

here's a diagram of the twin intercooler supercharged and turbocharged set up on the Lancia Delta S4

strangepiclancias4charggy5.jpg

strangepiclancias4charggy5.46d42fc8d2.jp

"Turbocharger is generally regarded as the most efficient means of forced induction, but it requires higher rev (hence a lot of exhaust gas) to operate. The result is poor low-speed power and the presense of turbo lag. On the contrary, supercharger performs strongly and instantly right from idle, but it is rahter inefficient in high rpm. For a rally car, a flat torque curve over a wide range of rpm is always very crucial, since rally car has to brake to very slow in tight corners and then accelerate to near top speed in 10 seconds. Therefore Lancia spent a lot money with Abarth to develop a system combining both turbocharger and supercharger to get a perfect output. It employed twin intercoolers, one for the turbo and one for the supercharger. The supercharger worked at low speed. Once the turbo cut in, a bypass valve relieved the pressure from the supercharger so that energy efficiency was be lifted"

Lancia might resurect the STRATOS in 2011! :)

...that is the good news...

the bad news is however the likely hood that it will be based on some exisiting Fiat or Alfa chassis. This means its highly unlikely to be too similiar to the original, in that it will quite possibly be devoid of the mid engined layout :(

Yes the pic is the old show car done by Fenomenon who owns the rights to the "STRATOS" name. So the new one could look much different.

DZ don't forget that it could be based on a Ferrari platform  I think it has to be as the Stratos needs to be mid-engined. Mind you that would be perfect as the original was powered by the Ferrari Dino V6 engine!

More exciting though is the new Fulvia which could come sooner based on the Alfa Mito platform.

a touch OT but has Ferrari ever made a car with AWD ?

for the new Stratos to be competitive in the rallying scene , were it to make an entry ,it would need a good 4WD system wouldn't it?

..but that would really be something to a Ferrari powered Lancia again!

about the rights - does that mean Lancia has sold just the "Statos" name??? :o but why?

Heh heh welcome to the world of Italian (mis) management pre-Sergio Machionne. They probably forgot to register rights to the name. Or Bertone owned it and Lancia forgot to buy it..... Luckily that guy who owns Fenomenon is the biggest Statos maniac on the planet. He owns several cars including some of the Gr4 rally machines. He also has a mind boggling collection of scale models and Stratos memorabilia. So I'm sure he'll not sell the name to Toyota for example, and give Lancia the 1st pref. I recall some American car called Stratus!!??? can you remember? A Dodge or Chrysler I think......

Ferrari did have a 4wd prototipo in the late 80s bt they probably thought it too impure for their cars and it never saw the light of day......

It's hard to imagine that this new Stratos will make it on the the Rally scene given Fiat's current motorsport policy. If at all it will be a Fiat or Abarth that will make it to WRC. But they probably will think well instead of simply busting everything they earn as in the past.

Alfa will return to WTCC someday when they are profitable. Maser will stick to ALMS and Le Mans I feel. I mean you can imagine their problem....So many sporting brands with serious motorsport heritage!!!

Lancia is the last brand in Machione's turnaround plan. So Lancia returning to motorsport is still a dream. There was a recent rumour suggesting that Ferrari wants a B-team in F1 and will buy STR and re-badge it Lancia. A load of bull I'm afraid. DZ think about that classic you mentioned about......... ;)

Dodge Stratus  yes one of those all too ordinary, seemingly 'white good' like American cars on a Mitubishi chassis!

Ferrari is as it sounds and seems then - finicky and typically Italian! ...its half truth about AWD in that it detracts from a certain level of 'feel' in a vehicle ,but to consider it unpure is almost a tad arrogant and narrow minded don't you think? :D

but props to them for sticking with thier philosophy and not compromising to fill the whims and fancies of the moneyed crowd who can't drive without an AWD nanny of sorts!

...as tempting as that classic sounds... i'm rather worried that i'd be getting in waaaaay in over my head trying to cut my teeth on someting that delicate!

...something tells me it's likely to be down the blue oval route to start things off... :D

but life is full of suprises,so only time will tell... :)

Be an insult to Enzo Ferrari to copy Lambo by putting AWD, don't you think? ;)

I guess it will not matter. Enzo's long gone and you do need to change with time. And Ferrari are doing it. They are stepping up production, a few years ago Luca Monto went on record to say they'll never produce more than 3500. Now he knows that the world has got a lot bigger and is likely to grow even faster. Then there's the new Califonia......the first true "everyday Ferrari"! WHich is good IMHO.

Maybe a large GT car like the 612 can be offered with a 4WD option, but I wonder if its really worth it. For road cars a few tenths lost due to a smidgen less traction around a track is hardly an excuse to add weight and inertia. That said after the current recession if the US market requires they'd have to build one :( !

For track days they have the Scuderia and occassional stuff like the 'Enzo' and FXX for the super rich.

For all Lambo's kudos they hardly have an ounce of Motorsport heritage. So Ferrari can afford to "know better". I was just thinking with Lambo going 4WD, it's like they going back to their rootes.......tractors ;)

I love Lambos but given the budget I'll go for the equivalent Ferrari in this current range. Its so much more "special" IMHO. The Lambos for all their greatness the image of Lambo has a bit of posing/bimbo-pulling/penis/brain size compensater......etc. more than Ferrari.

With the current energy crisis it will be interesting to see how super cars adapt. Just read that hybrids outsold Ford F series in the US  ! So weight is going to be a more important than ever.

Ouch!!!!!! ...as i've said before, your lucky that the forum doesn't have any Lambo aficionados!

...so this must be the first time in US history that cars will likely have outsold pick up trucks in the States?

high time em Mac filled rednecks felt the pinch!&opened thier eyes and changed thier ways for thier benefit and that of the rest of the inhabitants of planet earth!

Heh heh no I love Lambos. They're fantasy cars and I love fantasy.......but just can't get past Ferraris achivements and attention to detail. Don't like Enzo but the history can make you cry if you have even bit of petrol in your veins.

Time up for sure! Step on ma small block 8V lectric motrr...Yeeehaaaaa!

Rendered Speculation: Lancia Delta HF Integrale

integrale-rend.jpg

The Lancia Delta Integrale was the king of the hill on the rally circuit, kicking up dirt and taking championships in resplendent Martini livery. So when the Italian automaker revealed the new Delta, nostalgic rally fans began twitching with excitement.

Although Lancia has yet to reveal any plans to make a high-performance version of the new Delta, one such rally fan has drawn up his impression of what form such a gravel-chomping beast could look like. For our part, we're hoping Lancia will take note and give us a new Integrale, complete with jumbo-turbo power and all-wheel-drive... however unlikely that may seem while sister company Abarth runs the IRC circuit with their pumped-up Super2000 Puntos. Until that day comes, European customers will have to make do with the current front-drive 200hp 1.8-liter turbo to satisfy their longing for the good old days.

For most folk the name Delta means only the Integrale. And so they've been crying for an Integrale version for the new Delta. It won't happen though. The wheel base is way too long.

There is however a smaller 3 door car that is being developed at Lancia (internally called the Deltina) and the rumour has it that this would spawn the new Integrale.

mixed feelings about that sound track  but the footage of the Group B cars is quite decent!

love the part where the old Lancia gets some air over the ridge whilst spurting out flames from the exhaust - one of those iconic rallying moments

(the WRC bit on the video is rather misleading seeing as all the action is from an era that pre dates that)
