best bet is to take it to the agents and sort it out...

the harmful situ that will happen is that the bags won't deploy in a collision...

i've hear a story that the Air bag indicator does a number when something is up with the electricals &/or the battery on Nissans...

all hear-say...

...logic would say otherwise given that there is a seperate light for the battery to show any issue, but just something that been said about nissans - check your battery n see if the terminal are a bit loose possibly

failing which, run it by to A*W & get them to hook it up to the "Consult" (Rs.1250 for diagnostics i think) or just ask a technician there to have a look - helpful buncha blokes :)

Hi,

I am giving you general info and not specific to Nissans, so be ware! Most air bag lights in my experience are caused by seat belt pre tensioner wires being disturbed by objects under the seats or a sudden un usual movement of the seats(front). The way to check is as follows:

1. Disconnect both terminals of the Battery and leave off-make sure accidental contact with battery terminal is not possible.

2. Wait a few minutes-Min 3 minutes best leave for 10 mins.

3. Look under the front seats-make sure no wires are damaged and all the connectors are plugged in properly by pushing them together.

4.Remove any junk that may have snagged one of the wires when the seat was moved.

5.Leave the windows open and vacate the car-remove the ignition keys from the car- reconnect battery-Positive first tighten then the negative, reach through the window and turn ignition on

6. if you found the fault the light will go off in the normal sequence.

DO NOT USE ANY FORM OF TESTER I.E.MULTIMETER ETC TO CHECK RESISTANCE OR VOLTAGE IN THE AIR BAG CIRCUITS. yOU WILL DETONATE AN AIR BAG OR SET OFF A PRE TENSIONER AND YOUR NEIGHBOURS WILL THINK PRABHA IS VISITING OR ROHANA WIJEWEERA HAS BEEN RE INCARNATED!

Maithri

P.S. ELECTRONIC ANALYSIS WILL TELL YOU WHICH ONE Is PLAYING UP OR IF IT IS A CONTROL UNIT FAULT-VERY RARE FOR A CONTROL UNIT TO FAIL

I have an FN15 PULSAR CJ1 with dual air bags. However, the indicator never light up since I bought my car (I guess the indicator is there at the left lower edge of speedometer). According to my knowledge, all these indicators should light up once we switch on and goes off once we start the engine.

So please advise me to clarify what is the issue. If this an indication of that there are no active air bags, or may be a problem with the indicator..........

Probably the Indicator bulb is busted!

Do as DevindaZ instructs. If they find a problem with the airbag controller there are plenty of replacements from Delkanda. But if the problem as Maithri suggests is a wire disturbed it should be an easy fix.

It is possible the earlier owner has tried to mask a problem with the air bag system by removing or disconnecting the air bag indicator. I think first you need to do is check if that bulb is working and if not replace it and then follow the same advice from Maithri and DevindaZ if the light stays on !

Thanx Don, for ur advise....... :-)

Further can you pls advise me on a convenient place to replace/ check on the bulb, bcoz most of specialists mess with several systems when trying to fix one. May be I have to contact A*W............

Well any auto electrical place should be able to check the bulb. Pala Auto Electricals in Orugodawatte is the place I recommend. It is not a difficult task.

The other option is to take the car to A*W and as them to perform a diagnostic on the car (1250 according to DevindaZ) which will identify this problem and others. But you can try the above before trying anything else.

Where do you live by the way ?

Not particularly familiar with any reputable joints in your area. There is a decent spot near Gansaba junction on the high-level road, but perhaps it is best to take it to Pala if you can. The extra expense is worth it in my opinion as a cowboy technician botching up a simple job could cost you a lot more to rectify (speaking with personal experience here).
