Perfromance Air Filter For My Car

big Daddy

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have a Ford Laser 2000 model car. I am interested in getting a Performance air intake (K&N) fixed. How can I do this? Do I need to change the existing tubing? There is a mass air flow sensor also in the tubing. Any ideas  ?

Thanks

I will tell u easy way. Just go to www.knfilters.com and go to “find product page” and find the model number of the K&N filter that appropriate to your car model (putting your car model information to the webpage) after that try to buy it from sri lanka. If you can’t buy it from sri lanka try to buy from Singapore and just replace your air filter with K&N

you can buy it from the web site also. they will ship it to your mailing address.

Also may be you can fix open pod filter also. Just try. But I am not recommending to change vehicle’s original condition.

take your car to tokimo. call him on 0714093737. He'll tell you the ideal filter and give you an answer for the tubing /sensor matter as well.

This is a matter of getting the cone filter and just have the tubing fabricated.. no biggie.. you could buy the filter from Motorkade and have Elcardo do the piping.. you would have to remove your stock filter (inclusive of the box) if you plan to install the cone filter.. just make sure the piping points towards a direction in the engine bay where the air is relatively cooler (ie. as distant from the engine as possible). Plus, its mandatory that the air be installed on that piping (elcardo will know). Note that this would only be required if you plan to use a cone air filter. Cone air filters provide a bit more power in comparison to the stock OEM replacement filters.

If you are installing a normal K&N filter (stock model) to your car, then ignore the above..

depends on alot...

maitenence, conditions etc...Don't go for unfamiliar brands.

A good K&N filrer and the treatment kit can last you pretty much a life time. K&N claims that they give you a 'million mile warranty', provided you clean with the kit every 40,000 km.

apart for that, Hurricane is also ok. don't know much bout it though. It IS cheaper than K&N.

the oil treatment kit is below 2k and is good for around 5-7 uses depending on how you use it to treat the cone filter.. it is basically oil and a cleaning agent which you would have to use.

H.M.M.M.M SO HOW MANY OF U GUYS ARE USING THIS PERFORMANCE AIR FILTERS..????. LIKE TO KNOW WHT ARE THE BENIFITS WITH IT..AALSO... IN A COUNTRY LIKE SRI LANKA I,D RECON NEVER EVER TO USE THE OIL ON FILTERS...WELL FOR THE CLEANING..HA HA SURF EXCL IS THE MAJIC POWDER IN SRI LANKA..:unsure:

I have been using one.. apart from the smooth purr you get after installing the filter, you get a small increment though at times not noticeable in certain engines.. higher rpm permits obtaining the maximum bhp via the filter + your top speed would be a tad higher and a bit quicker in getting to it :D

the purpose of applying the oil is to prevent the filter from getting too dry and damaging itself from air and dirt.

when you apply the oil, you may get the impression that all the dust sticks to the oil and clogs up the filter faster, but thats not true. the dust sticking to the oil is supposed to be that way, thats a major part of the filteration. K&N air filter oil is a compound of mineral oil blended with special polymers to form a very efficient tack barrier.

"Petroleum products such as transmission fluid and motor oil will soften and destroy the rubber sealing edges. Our cleaner is a non-detergent degreaser. Solvents and gasoline will harden the rubber seals causing the filter to distort (shrink). A mild detergent can be used in a pinch, but care should be taken to fully rinse it out. Rinsing detergent out of a filter is similar to getting soap out of a sponge; it’s not that easy to do. Always make sure the filter is completely dry before re-oiling."

the above is an extract form the K&N q&a forum.

I'm pretty sure surf exel is a bit too hars, bro's... even on the paint.

Dirt has been known to seep thru the tiniest of cracks so even the filter without an oil barrier would let dirt into the engine thus clogging it up and leading to problems in the long run. The oils main purpose nevertheless is to absorb dirt and prevent it from entering the intake plus to treat the filtrate to make it long lasting.. the cotton in the K&N filters is somewhat fragile so using detergents is not recommended..

@ Nilantha - Cant feel any gain since the installation of the filter but I do feel a minor performance increase... the fuel efficiency factor would thus depend on the method of installation. Use baby shampoo for car washes as said by the AL specialist hehe :)

Had this idea too of just having a clean sheet of cotton cloth covering the intake but then the idea just faded ;) reckon it would give you a good boost lol.. cars a Sprinter AE110 dude.. 5AFE goes nowhere near high performance lolz..

Mr Nigel perera Recomend Apexi Filter, and I have seen, Skylines, Evos & Sti's with the Apexi Filters In SL, and some with HKS filters too, but never seen cars with K&N Filters, and Most Modified Hondas got Fake Filters

Funny you should have not seen cars that have genuine K&N filters.. then again I guess most 'modified hondas' that have fake filters have nothing more than the fake filter to show.. and boy do the owners love opening that hood to show off that fake filter lol! :))))

What filter are you running on the Evo?

Genuine K&N filter user here.. recommend it anyday for a 1.5/6lt engine.
