'Negenahira Navodaya' Traffic Programme for 19th July 2007

A special traffic programme has been organized by the Colombo Traffic Police for the national ceremony "Negenahira Navodaya," to mark the victory of clearing the entire East of LTTE control, is scheduled to be held at the Independence Square tomorrow at 8.30am.

A selected set of roads will be closed for traffic today and tomorrow from 6.30am to 12 noon as a result. The final rehearsals of the ceremony will be held today, organizers informed the police.

The following roads will be closed from the following junctions:

Independence Road from Cinnamon Gardens Round-about, Maitland Place from Gregorys Road - Maitland Crescent Junction, Maitland Place from Public Administration Junction, Maitland Place from Bauddhaloka Mawatha - Maitland Place Junction, Foundation Institute Road from Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha - Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Road Junction.

The following main roads will be closed for traffic for V*P motorcades during 8.00am to 9.00am and 10.00am to 11.30am and the police request the public and private sector employees to reach their working places before 8.00am.

Galle Road will be closed from Kollupitiya Junction to Fort, Parliament Road from Kollupitiya Junction to Dharmapala Mawatha, Ananda Coomaraswami Mawatha, Horton Place, and Castle Street up to Polduwa Round-about (Parliament Junction).

Thurston Road, Flower Road, Reid Avenue, Rajakeeya Mawatha, Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha and Guildford Crescent will also be closed during these two and a half hours.

Colombo City Traffic Police therefore request regular motorists to use alternative roads during this period.

Come to think of it what a lot of fuel would have been consumed for the Migs and Kfirs to do those low flying stunts :angry-smiley-024: . Mind you they could have flown a few more sorties with that fuel and at least hit a Tiger tractor if that is what their policy is - Weaken the terrorists :rolleyes: .

Of course I'm expecting another fuel hike for poor old us in the near future so the govt. can subsidise its consumption further :angry: :angry: :angry: .
