Daihatsu Copen

Hi fellas

Been taking stupid decisions lately, and now considering this as a weekend toy?

Any opinions?

Heavily overpriced these days.

If it’s just for fun rides, get a Honda S660. Looks better and drives better. Only thing is its not a electric full convertible. Rather a manual Opening over the cabin.

Quite nice ! Was looking for a enw set of wheels after our return to Japan earlier this year and drove a Copen Robe S and GR Sport and a S660. They are both nice cars...the Honda has a bit more of a driver focus to it..so you et slightly better feed back and sharpness...but the Copen I would say is 99% there. The GR Sport Copen felt a bit tighter than the S..though I did prefer the S (so it will be a personal preference I suppose and whether one wanted to spill an extra 500,000yen more).

Now..like I said the S660 is slightly more driver focused. However, the Copen is a far far more practical car to own and use. The S660 does not even have a luggage compartment for anything larger than a briefcase. The S660 you do feel rather cocooned and being a chubby dude I found out exactly how those sardines feel inside those cans. The Copen felt much more open and roomier (because of the open ness). Visibility is a lot better as well as a result.

Too bad @Octanehead is not around...the guy has a sweet little Copen.

..and no...did not buy a S660 nor a Copen....I have been banned on buying cars with just two doors since 2014...the ban was reminded to me and extended to cover vehicles with just two seats in it. The ban is superseded only when meeting the big bosses primary requirements.

I too am having issues with the boss, the boss went on to levels to claim that I have another boss on the side and wants to impress her with a flashy sports car!

Anyways Robe S is kinda rare here,

if you do know someone who wants to sell theirs please let me know.

Again please do share anything on the subject as i tend to keep it as a project car lifelong

Not a fan of the Cero? Once in a while a K number car might come up. Saw a honda beat yesterday, quite a nice thing albeit rare and old now.

You can't go wrong with both the copen or S660. I'd say wait a bit, until this stupid inflation trend comes down or a rare car pops up.

Copen is usually like 200k less.

unreg went from 2.7 ish to 3mil depending on spec and model grades etc. Can be heavily negotiated, they are “no market cars  “

reg went from 2.5mil. Abused and engine’s are tired on most.

Also most unreg cars are 2015 and such. Go for something over 2018 for good measure.

I would also wait.

Tried both today, can't fit in the s660

They are quoting insane figures, insane for a kei

Most are advertised at 39, they settle at 3750 37,

Way too high for my budget. Let's see

Wait till at least 2021. Prices would drop.

Tide of the times I suppose...

Would 32 be decent for an unreg car

Auto, 2014, 10k mileage genuine, personal import auction sheets verified physically and online

Also btw can a car have several auction sheets days apart, some mention "sold" some mention "finished"

No mileage tampering noticed between the auction sheets except perhaps about 117km run in between.

No accidents seen in both.

One sheet was from kobe, the other was from osaka

Again all verified online with payment. What do u think

Hmmm...

Is it a fully loaded with red/tan interior? What model is this?

2014 is kinda old for one tbh. They went for 25ish before the Virus.

30 might be ok in today’s crazy market, but even then still overpriced.

I would wait for more opinions from fellow members.

Sorry I have no idea what would be a reasonable price for these days. Just for your reference, @Octanehead advertised his car for around the same price. It is a 2015 with RAYS TE37 wheels and a Showa suspension upgrade with about 20K on the clock and a CAX registration ?

Yes...there could be more than one auction sheet. If the car was not sold at one auction it could have easily been transferred to another auction house a few days later. Typically the mileage difference for a deregistered car at auction is pretty much zero (we are talking like a few dozen kms as it was loaded and unloaded off of trucks). If it is in their hundreds then it was either driven between the auctions...Kobe city to Metropolitan Osaka is about 40km ? So it was probably registered during auction ?  Do you see when the car was deregistered ? Was it after the auction ? Of course who ever was selling it could have driven it with garage plates but movement between prefectrural areas is not customary with those plates.

Bigger question is...if it is a 2014...that means the latest year of import would have been 2017. So what has the car been up to for the last 3 years being unregistered ? Seen quite a few Mark Xs and Allions and Premios that were hidden in storage yards but still used for wedding rentals and stuff...

It's an unreg car btw. Auction grade 4.5

The interior black, is some carbon fibre edition. Has many parts including the seat inserts.

The car is Silver. Doesn't have fog lights. Rest all there.

I prefer to have the brown or white

I saw Octaneheads car on fb. I think his price is on the high side for a used car rego 2018, sweet mods though.

And I would love to have a manual, I actually drove another manual car in kurunegala, was a little beast but the 7 speed simulated CVT is also almost the same, besides my wife wants to drive it time to time thus I opted to stick to auto. The purist in me succumbed to the performance of the cvt. I dont know how but I was convinced

The car has run approx 3000km in SL, that bit I dont know how. It was auctioned on 27 Nov 2017. In SL by Jan 2018. They've been quoting 38 as it's an "edition"

The seller says the car was moved between their branches. This car was brought to my reach through a long term dealer I have known almost 30 years, my parents too got cars though him since 90s.

He ain't coming below 32

Anyways still contemplating. 3 more people are eyeballing the car since it was bought to kandy for my inspection. Toyota Lanka denied inspection as they dont do Daihatsu. So Car Checks is the only option, despite the sellers enthusiasm to get It inspected, i do not have the time to haul it to Colombo. I've asked the proprietor many times to open a branch in Kandy.

Just to mention there is no such thing as carbon edition, you can opt for silver trim or carbon trim on the dash, the carbon like weave on the seats come on all three interior colors (red, brown, black), and you can get a red trim on the dash only you get the red interior
