It's not that bad when you buy the AWD without those ridiculous bodykits, also the reduced wheel base. It's just mild off roading.

Isn't everything not that bad without those ridiculous body kits....it is amazing how many cars come with those things hanging off in all directions these days....we did not have them back in the 80s and 90s.

Is it a Japanese thing? They build an suv after so much planning and then add various kits , factory or dealer / franchise options? Do they have an off road community there

going by the body kits and all the accessories for the Prado one wonders on the intended purpose and the actual.

Not really...but kind of....you do see those with body kits but for the most part they are pretty stock. I would sort of say that the body kitted ones are more easy to come by in bigger cities where its more about highway cruising. The area I live in is mountenous and sall townish area..so those who buy UVs buy it for winter driving and going on camping trips or fishing. But then you still do see a lot more standard body ones ones than wierd body kit ones. After all those kits are pretty pricey. Needless to say....the manufacturers do realize that 90% of these SUVs are nothing but grocery haulers or highway cruises and they try to capitalize on that.

Maybe it is a Sri Lankan thing where the car importers specifically buy the ones with the body kits because we like more shiny things on our cars ? At auction the price difference between a used car  with and without the body kits is not that drastic (unless it is some special edition body kit).

There are off road clubs in Japan...but those are actual proper vehicles and the new and old Prados and Pajeros and RAV4s and XTrails do not have weird stuff hung on them...they might have stuff like JAOS accessories stuck on them that is it.
