What is an suspension upgrade for a Vitz and how/where to get it done?

Izza

Question

Hi folks,

Recently got down a Toyota Vitz 1.0 2017,  and am looking to make it a bit more exciting to drive :) Can't do anything about the engine of course, but I have heard that you can do suspension & wheels upgrade which can make it far more interesting. I searched the autolanka forums but could not find enough information. So, has anyone done this? What exactly are the benefits of doing it? How much would be the cost and where to get it done?

Thanks in advance!

Well well...Reading the comments, feels very urged to do some of the mods..

For strut braces, is it required to install both upper and lower bars or just the upper bar would be enough? I guess it require some drilling on the top of the strut towers? Does it have any consequences?

And where can I get them done neatly and professionally?

You can just get a strut brace which is the one installed in the engine bay between the shock absorber towers. The bottom flexes a lot less than thr top of the car because the existing suspension already provides more rigidity.

And no, you don't have to drill anything. You can fbolt on to your suspension mount (same top bolts on the shock absorber) .

The mounts are not as easily accessible as in this, will need a different specialised brace

Hello Izza,

How about getting an RS model, instead of chowing extra money into 1.0CC. You get more power, enhanced suspensions to handle the low profile tyers.

JC

It will come to about 6 mil in the duty pattern, being expensive at the auction as well with the engine capacity

That's the Yaris GRMN with a factory strut brace (you have to look closely to see it - especially since it's black). It's just not out in the open. The strut towers are under those plastic weather shields and will have to be taken out to install the brace. But I'm pretty sure it's just a regular one-piece, non-adjustable brace under there that mounts onto the strut bolts.

Hey JC,

Would have definitely gone for a higher capacity engine and RS, if not for the crazy tax structure we have in SL.. However researching, planning and doing all this (or at least what you can afford) by yourself has its own personal satisfaction :)

Sorry mate, I wasn't aware that it is that expensive to get extra 500cc

1. There has not been a RS since mid 2017 or something. So you are not going to find unregistered RSes anywhere. Only chance is a used one. The RS was replaced by the GR Sport.

2. Considering that the RS (now GR Sport) only comes in a 1.5L pure gasoline or Hybrid variants, it is quite expensive and no one brings them down. However...there is one GR Sport that i know of in SL :D There might be more....

3. The easiest would be to find the GR Sport parts...new ones are rather expensive....you can try finding used parts off of Yahoo Auc Japan but that will require sometime and money.

4. There are plenty of OEM parts that work for it...so go for the known OEM parts...there are some decent brands with local agents and they are rather cost effective too.

5. Yes to what Davy said...it is just a standard brace....

6. Right now....get the front upper one and then the rear lower one. Later on once you have gone though the items you might want to upgrade the lower front.

On a side note....its really exciting to have a proper thread on AL after a long long time instead of the usual fuel efficiency, what fist my budget, help me with my permit threads :D

It would be even more exciting if OP or someone who owns a Vitz actually do all this upgrades and report back

Any recommended places to get them done? Came across Ul**a Ra**ng, Colombo 10. Is it a good place as it appears on the web?

been reading this thread as I also own a Vitz and looking forward to add some decent cosmetic and performance mods later on. It still got steel stock wheels with 14 inch 165mm width Japanese Bridgestone tires. Tires are in good condition and only done 23k. If I were to get alloys, can I still use these tires? I am planning to keep the wheels at 14 inches. I would love to have wider tires someday but until then I wish to use the stock tires. (Step by step progress ?)

Does wheels support a bit wider tire than what is currently used? (Let's say 175 or 185)

Quoting myself here...

Found a great web site to check, verify and decide on wheel and Tyre upgrading for your car.

https://www.wheel-size.com/

We can select our model and check OEM wheel specs and matching wheels and tyres and also do comparisons.

Have a check yourselves. I don't know if this is public knowledge and I was the one found it just today though. :D
