Any Horologists with us? Watch lovers?

Hey guys. Hope everyone is safe from the sad attacks going on. We will get over this tragedy.stand strong!

So the reason I started this thread was, I wanted to see if we had any watch enthusiasts. I myself enjoy the marvels of a good timepiece. Though I am an amateur and never claim to be a pro horologist.

I thought that maybe we could have disscuss and hang out in this thread to all watch related things. Getting bored of thel higanna posts(you guessed it).

I acquired a few pieces along the years. Some great, some not so much. It is a very expensive hobby. Mainly due to prices increasing recently 10× because of social media goons who just dont value the piece. They dont care about nothing but the brand logo. But proudly show it off on Instagram and brag(ow bro rado ekak, suppa bande, elada bro?).

Im sure we have many pro horologists with us in AL. If you have time. Please share your prized possessions with us.

Thanks guys

Have few pieces collected over the years

Seiko Diver SKX007

Tissot PRS200

TAG Acquaracer 300M

Victorinox Swiss Army Base Camp

Omega Sea Master 300M (Bond watch)

Have been collecting them over the years mostly bought from overseas on special offers.

As you said desirable ones are ridiculously priced, thinking on going per-owned route for the next..

Wow you got some nice pieces. The bond will cost an arm and leg nowadays. Even I buy most of my watches on sale overseas.

Is it me, or do Tissot have very good quality and extremely good value?

Post some pictures in the free time if thats ok. Im sure everybody will like that ?

Well my Tissot was a gift from my mother in 2003, 16 years no issues just routine maintenance, battery change every 2 years with the agents they also check the water proofing.

I believe it gives the best value, quality is in par with TAG minus brand factor.

Omega is in a different league.

You guys have to join watchuseek.com

That's where the real action takes place. I have been dabbling in this hobby for a while, but desperately trying to keep myself as a collector of PMWs and VPMWs. Of late, classic PMWs have gone up in price, due to a local/regional mafia in operation. Best examples are the Japanese bullheads. There are Indians and Pakistanis who travel in the region to get hold of those.

Possibly the most interesting piece I got, is a Le Marquand Spaceman. Unfortunately the watch has stopped and I never got around to open it myself. I don't want to give to any watch repairer in this country, because its caseback is fibreglass and these guys are sure to ruin it.

It's similar to the one below (but blue in colour):

spaceman+oval+brown.jpg

I have a Rado Voyager (gold machine), a Royal Orient (from 1964 and still running and keeping time), some Vostoks, few mechanical HMTs from India and a couple of watches from little known Swiss brands.

For my daily running, I use a Rotary Greenwich, CK Formality, Emporio Armani Meccanico, a couple of Hanowas, a Bulova and a couple of Wengers.

The meccanico is another interesting one:

e331f82b42b8ad87346820120784fc4c.jpg

The little window between 55 and 5 is actually the hour indicator, not a date window. It's a jump-hour watch and its an mechanical automatic one.

Omega is in a different league.

Tissot belongs to Swatch group. So does Omega, Blancpain, Longines, Rado and Breguet. On top of it, the largest Swiss watch movement manufacturer, ETA is also part of Swatch group. So don't be surprised if you open a Tissot and an Omega and find the same movement inside! Having said that, the movement is only part of the watch.

ETA's battery-operated movements are so-so. Older ones are better, but their newer quartz movements (such as the notorious G10, found in Tissot chronographs) are a hit or miss.

Longines and Rado shared movements are far as 40 years back, even before they became part of Swatch group. My Rado Voyager has a Longines movement inside (signed Rado).

Tag belongs to LVMH group (Louis Vuitton), along wth Bvlgari, Hublot and Zenith. Some Tags use cheap Ronda movements, since ETA has stopped supplying movements to companies outside of the Swatch group.

My personal view is that Hattori (Seiko group) makes the most durable and reliable mechanical movements and are superior to many Swiss movements, when it comes to quality. Hattori VD53 is possibly the most reliable quartz chronograph movement around. They are the Toyotas of the watch world, while the Swiss are the Mercs and the Bimmers. Fortunately or unfortunately, when it comes to digital quartz watches, Casio rules!

Would like to own a Citizen EcoDrive someday. Had a simple yet classy citizen with a black belt & dial that was stolen 2 years ago.

Now I have a Seiko 5 automatic radium watch that my dad used for about 15 years. I have kept it away safe & sound as it doesn't look good on me plus I'm not the greatest fan of radium.

I am using this beauty for the last 6 months as my daily runner:

Compared to my previous watch Seiko SKX007, this one is much better in build quality. And I am surprised that the crystal is still brand new without a single scratch, unlike in the Seiko which had many scratches although Seiko claimed their hardlex is more scratch resistant than the other minerals.

I have an eco drive, the thing needs to be kept in the sun, so either you gotta wear it everyday, now almost 15 years old and the battery has had it. Currently it’s a train wreck to repair.

I thought they worked under any light source? Train wreck meaning expensive or hard to find a specialist?

What do you use now besides the citz?

They are not happy with indoor bulbs, yes even the agents are a bit iffy about opening it, they are like use it as is, as the battery will be hard to source and once remove it may not work Noah blah.

I used to be a nut about mechanical self winding watches, so I have 3 all seiko.

I use the most is  a seiko 5 sport, 23 jewels automatic hardy enough works well.

The dream is a rolex with the Pepsi dial.

Got 4 but I don't see me as a collector but I do love them.

Tissot EveryTime Swissmatic - My Office use

Seiko Grand Seiko automatic - Received as a gift and still in the box

Paul Smith chronograph - Bought when I had my old school Cooper S but cooper is gone ? but the watch is with me

Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 CV2A10 - Bought it 2009 still work mint

My Casio F-91 still working and still mark every hour alarm - I am sure I got it in 1995 for my grade 5 exam after 25 years later still working, I think they made the same era as Hiace LH51 - LH113 and in my mind, that's the bulletproof era. ?

Similar predicament here

I spent ages hunting down a super rare Subaru Seiko limited edition Prospex Fieldmaster (one of just 360 ever made!) only to end up not having a Subaru in the garage by the time the watch finally came in to my possession so it's never been worn and just sits safely in a box ?‍♂️

The daily, a Seiko Pressage "Cocktail time" ticks along without drama but now sits on a dark tan Hirsch ?

I ended up with a Huawei Watch GT after hunting for a few Seiko and CK models. Certainly not a piece of art, but thanks to it I started working out and walking more to get step count goals. Ended up loosing over 11kg and getting a lower hearbeat. It’s really a fitness tracker without smart features with a classy look. Geek-wise, it’s still a basic watch; something like a mi band with a colourful display. Will not buy a Huawei watch again, but certainly I’d go for a smart watch without even thinking twice...

Did you know that there was a point ot time when the FBI was hunting down folks (especially brown ones) who wore F91W?

And I thought I was the only one who liked Russians

What's the Poljot u got? 3133? I was desperately looking for a genuine 3133 but good ones are pricey.

I have a Vostok Tank and a Scuba Guy. Also had a questionable KGB and a fake Zakaz but gave them away.
