Well Toyota Lanka imports used JDM Toyotas now. Not sure where they get those from, maybe auctions?

Toyota Lanka did this in the early 90s. However they stopped after a few years because it was not economically viable for them. This was a time where 3rd party car importers were popping  out like mushrooms. A*W did the same thing...

At the time the used cars were sourced from Toyota U-Car lots, i.e. official Toyota used car stock. In Japan the manufacturers' used car stocks are are sort of the primary source for used cars at auction. These are cars that are traded in by owners (which is the most typical way Japanese people discard their cars) or cars from the manufacturers' rental/lease stocks. When a manufacturer gets these used cars they decide to either sell it on thier used car stock or send to auction. If the vehicle doesn't get sold on their used car lot then it goes to auction :) These stocks carry a 1 year warranty with the Japanese manufacturer (in Japan it was legally required for used car dealers to provide a minimum 6 month bumper to bumper no questions asked warranty on all used cars sold and registered. There were plans to extend that to 1 year).

If you buy a used car that is put up for sale within Japan at a car sale (such as the manufacturer's used car lot); the benefit is that you know the car is 100% road worthy and that whatever mechanical defects have been fixed to meet roadworthyness. So in essence they are not messed around with.

Early 2000's and they have started again , very recently i think it is called toyota "SURE"..i saw a few Premios in the Wattala showroom, not the main one but the new showroom at  paint & body repair complex. Am not sure whether they are from auctions or Toyota dealers in Japan direct.
