How to verify jaai, jevic, sterling certification

KasunC

Question

Hi, I'm in the process of buying a reconditioned car from a car sale (2015-2017 vitz or 2017 swift or 2017 passo). I have following questions.

  1. If a car has JEVIC certification, how to verify the certification details of the seller got? can I verify the details online? is checking the e-certificate online (https://www.jevic.com/) is a correct way?
  2. JAAI certification, how can I verify the certification details? is there a way to check it online?
  3. Does above cars can come in Sterling certificate? how to verify a sterling certificate? can I do it online?
  4. What if the seller refuse to show the certification or he say there're no certifications available but it was certified in jevic(or anyother)?
  5. Is it possible to check the vehicle condition from Toyota Lanka or A*W for a car in a sale? does Toyota Lanka or A*W do that?
  6. Is it possible for a seller to not have a certification for a car?

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Depends...some come with Sterling, some with something else, some with none...these are just 3rd party warranties which the importer of the car can choose to or not chose to get at time of export from Japan.

4. Walk away. You are buying a common car. There are plenty around.

5. If the dealer is decent and honest and has nothing to hide...he will agree to taking the car there. Some do it on their cost some expect you to pay at least part of it.

6. Yes. Depending on the agent you might want to consider going to a third party like Car Checks instead.

Can we trust the milage which is mentioned in the jevic or jaai certificate as genuine?

An experienced importer has many a dodge... it is illegal to tamper with the mileage before sending the vehicle in for JAAI/JEVIC inspection but it's being done - NAK databases or other safety measures are not that effective. They do offer a forensic examination of the odometer for an added price but it's not mandatory - so no,  JAAI/JEVIC certificates are not 100% trustworthy

IMO, a big No No!!!

Make sure, you check the Auction sheet.

A copy of it can be obtained from https://jpcenter.ru/report by paying USD 10. It is worth to try.

Primarily check for the followings:

1) Auction Grades, 5/4.5/4.0

2) Interior grade, A/B

3) Exterior grade, A/B

If your car is satisfactory in terms of such grades, don't bother about the Mileage.

@iRage Thank you. What is the site to check JAAI certification? Can you share the website link?

True, these warranties are in NO WAY related to manufacturers warranties and do not cover any Design problems such as the Honda and Xtrail DCT, Fit GP1 oil burning, Leaf battery destruction that came up recently.

Wow they even change the Odo even before going to Jevic and Jaai? I guess it’s our guys over there who is doing this. I’m sure there might be some genuine reports as well
