Few Modifications? Allow Wheels, Audio, Seats + +

CarNoob1991

Question

Since the lease is almost over thinking of splurging a bit on my Viva Elite 2013. Username is CarNoob - 1991 for a reason. Lol

Thinking

- Sound system upgrade (Currently stock)

- Good Seat Covers? (Currently stock)

- Alloy Wheels (Thinking Matt finish) (Currently stock)

Specify if I should? If I should do anything else on top? And vendors/ Suppliers you would recommend?

Regards,

CarNoob1991

Hi and welcome,

Starting with safty first. what size tyres/wheels are you havingand are the wheels steel?

Then you can upgrade to an alloyset and matching tyeres , keeping the same tyre hight - lowering profile with matching increase in rim width.

Well..the car is pretty safe for its class in stock form....so unless the guy starts chopping coil springs and putting oversized wheels it should be okay for now

1. Stereo : Okay

2. Seat covers : Personal Opinion - utter waste of money unless your current seats are rexine/plastic/rubber or the current seats are completely worn out beyond any hope of restoration. Even if you have rexine/plastic/vinyl/rubber sets..rather than putting a cover on to of it...get it re-upholstered in cloth. If you slide a cover on TOP of it..it will just start slipping and sliding when the covers get stretched after sometime.

If you have decent cloth seats...just leave it as it is...there really isn't much you can do in terms of upgrading it with cloth seat covers...only refined way up would be a leather seat cover and where those are concerned...cheap and fake leather ones look like crap and the good ones cost too much (not worth for your car). So leave it as it is....if you want a bit of flash...think about going to a good upholstery place and getting some stitch work done (eg. colored stitching along the edges of the seat...stitched logo, etc...)...if you do get the edges/seams of the seats stitched. Think about getting the steering wheel stitched as well

3. Wheels : Do not go for the cheap Chinese ones..they look tacky and most of them are nothing but a death trap as they wear out. Save some money over time and go for a decent branded set or at least a decent/reputed replica (eg. AR, BR, etc...) even a used set of a good brand is better than the new Chinese ones.

Some other suggestions for handling and safety:

4. Suspension upgrade : set of coil-overs (or proper lowering springs and shocks that fit the lowering springs) and some strut bars ? would change the handling dynamics making it a bit more fun to drive. If you do lower it, it will have a rather nice look as well.

5. Exhaust upgrade : Look in to getting a modest upgrade for the exhaust....NOT a fart can...but a proper exhaust that has a nice mellow tone. There are plenty around in Japan so I am sure some used ones would have made it over here...if not look in to getting one down. A slightly pricier alternative would be to get one made from someplace like WickedEP.

6. Brake upgrade ? : Even if you don't go for a large brake kit....perhaps get some ventilated disks and some decent pads ?

VISUALS:

7. Body...how about a simple and elegant, stock looking body kit. Nothing aggressive...putting an aggressive one would make the car look ridiculous...everyone knows it is not that powerful (in stock form) so it will look like a puppy wearing a lion's costume.

At the end of the day...simplicity always draws attention and keeps it.

Keeping in mind you woula need to sell your creation, keep the mods to a sane level as the prospective buyers will be put off,..

TT.

Many sides to this....on one hand most of us diss things like plastic bucket body kits, but there always is a large group of people who sought after it....so there is always someone out there who will buy your ridiculous creation.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with a car being a creative expression and extension of its owner...so if a person is in to all kinds of fancy body kits, stickers, surf boards, etc...then go for it. His car, his money....what I would say is however crazy the person wants to go with their car, it might be in their best interest to do it in a manner that it can be undone.
