Engine issues with 2007 Toyota Vitz

lakwije

Question

I drive a 2007 Toyota Vitz and recently started having issues with the engine. When I gas the engine, it does not give me the power I need. I hear the engine rev but the power just isn't there. When I need to overtake another vehicle, I usually put the gear to "S" for that reason and that gives me a little bit of power to over take that vehicle.

Also having issues when the vehicle is stopped. When in traffic in a slope, the car goes to reverse if I don't push the gas paddle quick enough. This also happens when I let go of the hand break after it being parked.

I have cleaned the injectors and replaced the spark plugs. It was good for sometime but the issues came back.

Appreciate some help to know what's going on with the car. And if someone could point me to a place where I can trust and fix these issues, that would be great.

Thanks.

The car wouldnt reverse on a slope  or rev hard without giving power if the air filter is clogged. When was the last time you changed ATF oil?

I suspect the gearbox. The car is revving hard but moving slow because its not shifting gears. You need to show the car to a gearbox specialist and there is only one guy whos accepted by most members of this forum to sort gearbox issues. Chandana from Nilwala Motors 077 3027118

I don't think I feel Jerks. I'm not sure when the CVT oil was changed. The car was bought recently. Oh the other thing is, when stopped in traffic, the vehicle starts to vibrate/shake violently. This does not happen all the time but it happens occasionally.

You should not be taking any chances with a CVT gear box. First check the condition of the CVT oil through a garage or a service joint and replace if necessary. You might need a tuneup too but first check whether the gear box is ok.

Your autobox may be showing signs of old age (11 years old).   Get it serviced. and get the engine/trans mounts checked + your brakes for binding.

what is the current actual mileage (do you have maintenance records from previous owners) ? any information on ATF change at 40000km and multiples of that ?

Current mileage is 70000KMs. But we do not have the maintenance records from previous owners. Do not have any info on ATF change :(

I haven't used any CVT gearbox so I am not that aware of that, But I feel that, it may be wise to change ATF oil (I am doing such maintenance at the agent, not the local service station) asap and get gearbox checked at the same time. Usually 40000km multiples services are major services for most vehicles and keep it mind it is also 11 years old car now.
