questions

1.What is the Recommended brand of Engine oil and type of Oil filter for a toyota vitz KSP 130 which need to be replaced at first service?
2.What are the other things to be done at first service other than changing engine oil/filter and engine clean up during first service?

What ever you do, Don't wash the engine,.. If your car is an Auto ,as modern auto's don't have a dipstick you might want get the fluid level/condition checked. but it's best to let someone qualified to do the job.

ASSUMPTION: Your car  has the actual mileage and has not been tampered with.

1. "GOOD" engine oils are not that widely available in SL....Are you plannign on going natural or synthetic or a semi-synthetic (there are plenty of threads that discuss the three type so please do a search)?

Most of what we get are the low to mid ranged ones even from the reputed manufacturers. Most go for the so called "Toyota" oils. Please remember Toyota does not make oil..they buy it from someone else and re-brand it as Toyota recommended oil. In Japan they use "Castle" which you don't get in SL....so you can go with the "Toyota" oil or look in to something like LiquiMoly, etc...

As for the oil weight...the W part of the grade does not necessarily apply to us in SL..so essentially you are looking at both 30 weight oils in both cases you stated. In Japan they probably used 20...but in SL that would be too light ? 30 would work..depending on how you use your car you might even want to look in to 40.

Filter : You can go for the "Toyota" genuine filter (again...Toyota buys it from another manufacturer and reboxes it. However, there are lot of fake "Genuine Toyota" filters so watch out....you can also buy an OEM filter like ViC (which in certain cases seem to be better than the "Toyota" filter itself)

2. Well...look at the other fluids....make sure they are properly topped up. You can ask them to do a visual inspection of the brake pads, joints, boots, belts, etc...wash up the undercarriage (I personally oppose to them spraying random stuff on the undercarriage which the service guy claims to be lubricants, cleaners, etc...most of them smell like they have high a concentration of kerosene oil or something of the sort which are bad for the rubber bits..so never underestimate the power of water)

In Japan things like the engine coolant and brake fluid get changed every two years and power steering fluid checked and replaced if needed during the shaken inspection (road worthy inspection), so you do not see those items in the service schedule of Japanese vehicles; whilst in Vietnam, Indonesia and Tanzania they were part of the service schedule every 20K or 30K service. Since your car is still "new" you probably won't have to worry about these (*note assumption).

What's the reason for this? Why shouldn't one run it on the same 20 weight oil it used to run in Japan. What are the reasons and benefits we could gain from moving to a higher viscosity oil?

Ambient temperature and driving conditions can have...uhhh...a "thinning" effect on oil ? So in slow moving traffic for prolonged periods of time in high temperature areas can cause the engine to start making slight knocks, etc..because the oil thinned out.

Perhaps a person good in chemistry can explain better ?

Today i changed engine oil from 0-20 to 5-30 toyoyota oil.now there are no jerks during low speeds.so it is good to use higher viscosity grade in 3 cylinder cars instead of 0-20 oil.

Thanks for your advice
