from the budget you are probably looking at a M47 engine -known for some turbo issues. The successor N47 has a bigger problem where the timing chain components can fail prematurely if you get a bad unit (in Europe BMW has agreed to cover full cost upto 100k km ,a colleague has changed twice in 3 years now). The successor B47 engine is fairly new ,and so far only known for EGR valve issues. Always better to buy with dealers warranty, and dealer maintained. I doubt if the independent mechanics know enough to diagnose the N47 timing chain issue before it fails, usually the symptom is some weak rattling noise from the engine which would be ignored. But please don't be discouraged,it's better if you know the car/owner history well.

Since the car is old, look for one with a good maintenance history. Basically at their age, everything which could go wrong would have been fixed at least once by the dealer or a private garage.

Just have your future head ache, |I mean flashy showoff, properly inspected by a trained, experienced person.

Check the A/c for powerful operation on a warm day. as the evaporator replacement is a dash off job.

Cheers.

TT.

2011 model should be N47 with the timing issue. The improved B47 engines were introduced since 2014 models. Not all N47 were bad,but its an issue that exists. Usually the timing chain system is maintenance free. Depending on the age,if there was even one timing belt change by now, then the car is affected and it will keep coming again every 40k km or so. Expect to pay about Rs.70k for the parts if you buy locally, about 20k less if you buy from eBay. About 15k for labor. And if you get it done at the agents, about Rs.150k of total cost.

TO AJM

Thks for your feedback mate.

Any way can this issue be checked from the company ???
is there any way of knowing whether such timing chain change had been done in the car ???

One said company give us a warranty if the car is maintained by them ; is it so ???

Overall what do you think about  going for it ???

Is the regular maintenance costly ???

How  about the other parts that could have to be changed with the age of the vehicle ??

What is more in demand  Black interior or Beige interior ?? is there any grades like the basic one & G grade in japs....

Sorry for bothering but thanks any way again

there seems to be an upgraded Tensioner but  the effectiveness of the improvement is not confirmed. My colleague is on the 3rd Chain kit, because even with the 2nd change of improved part, the problem came back within 30k kms.

here you can see in red,a list of models with the N47 engine.

https://www.1erforum.de/threads/n47-diesel-uebersicht-steuerkette-schabt-rasselt-gelaengt-gerissen.136698/

it seems tricky to change the chain on the N47,because its on the flywheel side. In the predecessor M47 was at the front like any other cars.

and it seems that US export (premium) models were not so much affected, maybe also the regular exports to the SL agent were better than the EU,UK units. There its more frequently failing and covered by BMW warranty upto 100k kms. Usually the symptom is a weak rattling from back side of engine. Since the chain is a lifetime component,if the seller mentions a replacement ,then possibly it's an affected unit.

Grades depends pretty much on the options and brands available (leather upholstery, navigation, led winker lights,HID or reflective headlights ,park sensor ,audio system etc). Basic functions are standard.
