@AVANTE You're right. There are some decent builds... Now that you mention it I do recall seeing some Fords that were done up well. (A rather nicely restored Ford Escort comes to mind, not sure if it was featured here or on an associated site, I'll have to go google it...)

Also thanks for the link! Haven't seen it before and it looks good... :D

Lankans should get into restomods more. Racing gadgets and some modern stuff (and even modern drivetrain parts) on an old body.

Any memory on the color of that escort you mentioned?

painful and long!

this isn't the first time I've heard length contributing to pain

I didn't even consider Standard

Well TBH - my grandad had owned a standard vanguard Phase I way back - my dad barely remembers it (don't think we have any pics of it) last year for dads birthday I sourced an oxford die-cast scale model as a gift so I did some research on Vanguards - the car in this pic is a Phase II unit.

@Kavvz - i'll post one on the trivia soon.

Right! @Devinda_Z ! Those parking lights added to the mismatch~! Quite the brain teaser. @matroska you'll have to walk us through what made you hit on the answer!

All was not lost though. While googling for closer views on the Dauphine I did come across an interesting build. I am not sure if the classic car purists would take offence at it; but it did tickle my fancy quite a bit and it made me wonder if anyone here in SL has done anything similar using a vehicle more common to us that wouldn't be such a sin to cut up ?

Here's the vehicle in question:

a bit of back story on the build here: https://engineswapdepot.com/?p=48280

Wonder if the car still survives?

It was gray / green with a red interior...I'm sure members here know the car. It was pretty well recieved and did the rounds on some local car mags etc.

Nissan owns Mitsubishi? Wha?! How come they aren't cramming some Mitsubishi goodness into their commuter cars? I could use a little bit of Evo X in with my Nissan's please...And its interesting to note Ford and MB only control one other brand now, O'how the mighty have fallen!

There were talks of a renault megane RS based Evo XI. Supposedly a Hybrid, also the standard megane RS is a crazy car. Currently the fastest FWD to lap the nurburgring.

yeah apparently Samsung did assemble a few Nissan based cars in the early 2000's - I'm surprised none of them blew up (oh c'mon you can't have forgotten the exploding note 7's ) naturally they sided with Renault.

Sadly they do - Never a fan of the Renault-Nissan alliance that kinda killed the Nissan spirit and merged the Renault weirdness  into Nissan's  genes. (With all due respect I simply cannot stop thinking of Citroen and Renault as makers of weird autos)  Also they seem to be focusing on specific markets for each brand

There we go! @Devinda_Z

Did any of the local magazines or channels do a write up or feature? I seem to recall reading about it someplace?

edit: Just went on Octane Heads blog and read the article. Nice write up.

Also from the same blog:

Another great restoration!

Few on my FB was angry that Subaru and Mazda not on the list. I have no clue. May be because they are on their own? Not sure.

I think Mazda needs to join forces / buy TVR. Imagine the zoom-zoom off THAT combo... :D

How come MMC is under Nissan Motors and Nissan Motors isn't under Renault? Renault owns 44% of Nissan and Nissan owns 34% of MMC. The three companies have three CEOs.

Ah, yes, here's a more updated one:

The seemingly unlikely alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi was recently strengthened with a new framework ratified in early 2020.

Wonder what this "new framework" is
