Engine Knock when accelarating- Nissan Wingroad QG15

tsam

Question

Dear Friends , please help me to sort my car issue, i m not sure this electrical or mechanical issue, My nissan wingroad ( Auto ) 2002, engine is Qg15

theres an engine knock i cant sort this out , i did the efi tune up, did the exhaust Analyzer test, and no engine fault codes also, when i stop on gas some times it knocks

and RPM is not moving mostly but when in Neutral its going up, ,this happens when only in drive ( D) positions neutral there's no knock at all , i use only 95 petrol only

i don know who can diagnose this , but im not sure to who to take to , most of the guys still couldn't figured , please help , thank you all, My ATF oil also good,

check if your knock sensor is working properly.as it adjusts the engine settings to avoid it pre detonating.SL high octain stuff has been discussed in depth here and has been causing probs to owners for as long as I can remember.

It is possible that you got an extra shot of kerosene in your lst fill-up.?

Don't wash the engine.electronics and water don't go togeather,..and make the most complexed hard to find faults.from abs  to engine mis-fires.;)

There could be multiple causes but these are the ones i would check out first;

First try pumping 95 oct and see the results, if the knock is gone its most likely carbon deposits. Overtime carbon deposits settle inside the cylinders so that causes the compression ratio of the engine to go up. When compression goes up detonation happens causing knock. if this is the case use a fuel system cleaner like wurth or 3m and see results.

Also could be a problem with the ignition system components also. GQ15 has individual coil packs and one of your coils maybe weak, under load it may not be able to give proper current. Also check the state of the spark plugs and change them if needed. Sometime the spark plug gaps are incorrectly set by our so called tuning experts, check the manual and get the gap corrected accordingly.

Some confusion here with the terminology used to describe the issue I believe. Knock (or ping) in an automotive context is the pre-detonation of fuel mixture due to various reasons like advanced ignition timing, lower octane fuel, hot-tipped spark plugs etc. But apparently what OP experiencing here seems to be an occasional engine miss and the resulting jerk. If you suspect the ignition coils for  causing the engine miss, then  remove them from the engine block and inspect their outer body (and the engine block too) closely for evidence of corona discharge marks. Of course it is not a complete test for there could be an internal leak in a coil that results in a weak spark etc, but it could give you a firsthand clue if you are lucky. Otherwise follow Sierra Charlie's advice above.

Want to add something here because I had similar kind of as soon as I bought my previous FB15 which had the same engine. I felt intermittent " taka taka" noise when I tried to accelerate with even 95 octane petrol. Engine was troubling to rev up beyond 3000 RPM. No fault codes no check engine sign. But the problem was with MAF sensor. Don't know whether it help or not in this scenario.

OT: You sold your FB15 or you are on your 2nd FB15 ? :)

Fair enough! :)

If it doesnt have a distributor the there are few sensors to measure the required inputs to get the idle values ,, therefore its better to get those checked like MAF and other related ones..

Also get all the coil packs and spark plugs checked , cz even though those were replaced, one of em could be the culprit as well..

And also if possible get your head gasket condition checked.. cz i once had a similar issue where i get a huge lag in power in mostly within 1500-2000rpm range and it was identified by my mechanic due to head gasket leak.. After replacing it issue vanished..

Since mine didnt come with a distributor as well (same as urz i believe)

P.S : car is a not a nissan but a honda

Thank you,

Machan the thing is no one is compatible of pin pointing the exact issue..  things we say are some tips to check before jumping into wrong conclusions.. if you are not equipped with mechanical instruments, either way u hv to go to a mech and get it diagnosed and done.. We as a community can do is to give you possible reasons which may lead to ur root cause..

Hope you can understand it.. u should perform step by step analysis and remove all identified suspected scenarios till you get to the root cause :)

Anyways good luck.. Please do update us with ur results, so that it will help someone else in future cheers
