Mazda bj5p RS special edition

I  am an owner of a BJ-5W RS not the 5P. This car was an upgrade from a Glanza S. So, my comparison is limited. IMO, this is one of most underrated great cars in today's market. Fast, comfortable and reliable. Parts are averagely priced, and definitely cheaper than new Toyotas. Few specialist/dealers in Pachikawatta stock most of the parts. The car only once broken down (the clutch cylinder gave up) on the road i.e 2 years ago (immediately after purchase), no any issues ever since. The manual did not have any gear box issues. Cannot comment about the Tiptronic as i haven't driven a single car.

To resell : You will have to wait for the right candidate to show up.. may take time to resell.

any further comments??

Good car, not great in any thing,

Sad to hear of your clutch failiure.best replaced both upper and lower washer kits at theb same time.

keep a tab on the rad expansion bottle as it is prone to going low and if left unchecked , will leave ou with a head ache.

Careful when jackin  the rear ofthe car and stick to the jacking points as the locating arms are not load bearing structures.

any one who really owned a tiptronic of the same model?

I currently own a Mazda familia GS Special Edition which is a notch below the RS as it does not have a trip tronic gear box. My one's YOM is 1999 and actually a RS version was not released at that time and GS was the highest grade.
The GS has all the features except the triptronic gearbox. If you need to know anything other than details on the gearbox i can share my experiences of 7+ years of ownership. :)

ok.. this is for all of you folks..

a very good friend of mine used a bj5p special edition 2001 YOM with all 4 discs, tiptronic, white meter panel, nardi steering and it was an awesome ride and i had a special edition hatch 2000 model manual with only front discs but everything else was the same. both had ZL-Ve VVTI engines.

i personally felt the handling and the tiptronic box was very fun to drive and had a decent pick up. mine was manual but i felt the tiptronic box was much better recuse mazda manual shift was very stiff compared to my previous hondas.

both were maintained at Maxxna motors and my friends tiptronic was running fine up to about 100k milage and then started giving issues. the biggest issue was delay in shifting and not shifting at all sometimes and this was rectified by Maxxna citing it was a pressure leak from the wornout clutch plates in the tiptronic box. then after months the issue came again and Maxxna again repaired it.

that was back in 2013 and i heard the tiptronic box parts were hard to come by because these were limited editions and that was the first generation tiptronics of mazda familia.

anyways he sold it in 2013 before the issue arise again and he confirmed the next owner also had the same issue again.

also , as someone correctly said, my manual car's clutch cylinder gave up twice and repair kit did not work hence i replaced the entire cylinder.

other than that it was a wonderful car to drive.

hope this helps!
