Honda Civic Ek3 D15B Engine MAP sensor

andunslg

Question

My Honda Civic Ek3 car failed emissions test due to response failure of MAP sensor. Electrician found the issue after inspecting. With the RPM MAP sensor want change its resistance.

Need to replace it. Can I know a place to find it? I think it has a replaced sensor. Its not Honda. But Denso. I found the blue colour one in delkanda. Will it match ?

To begin with it is not a MAF (Manifold Air Flow) sensor but a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. Also Honda (or for that matter all other vehicle manufacturers) do not produce their own sensors. Instead they get sensors from OEM suppliers like Denso, Bosch etc. The other part shown may work but it is not advisable to do so unless Denso lists them as compatible. The other thing is that a MAP sensor does not change its resistance (A TPS does) according to RPM or throttle position but it's output voltage change from 0V to 5V according to the vacuum in the manifold. Did you check at the agent or places like Tech motors? Better if you can change the part with a new genuine one with the same Denso part number. If you suspect the sensor had been changed before then you can search for the part in an online site like amayama.com partsfan.com, megazip.net etc with the chassis number of the car just to confirm the original part number.

Hi,

When we installed the new sensor, it got worse. Previously, when we increase the RPM, MAP sensor didn't increase it's voltage reading. The new one does.

But the emission test's high rpm show increased CO count compared to previous values.

We have done tune-up, plug replacement etc.

So the previous sensor is wrong one for the engine?

Can anyone share a image of throttle body of a EK3 D15b.

Thanks

The OEM part number of your previous MAP sensor (078900-3000) should be correct. However, if it did not show a change in voltage with increasing RPM then you should have got a Check Engine Light (CEL) indication on the dashboard. Were you running the car for sometime with the CEL indicator on? If so after installing the new sensor reset the ECU and do a run of about 100km for the ECU to re-learn the fuel map. Then check if the emissions are normal. Also make sure that there are no vacuum leaks after the throttle, injector washers are in good shape , PCV valve is clean and functional. (These things should have been checked at the tune up? Do you know what they did at the tune up?)
