Lots of speculation around... But I think anybody who buys a Mazda in Sri Lanka will be having resale value quite low in his list of priorities.

And like Supra says, prices are increasing all around. If the monstrosity that is the 4th generation Prius can pull in close to 8 million or more then You can bet your last cent that there will be more than enough people willing to buy at the new prices.

Heard on the news that they are going to calculate taxes based on kW value of electric vehicles and according to that the leafs price has actually gone down it seems.

Vitz has actually gone down after tax revision along with several other cars.

Well...the table just depicts the duties for the more popular/standard imports (which are Japanese)...not just for Japanese cars; the gazette notification and the other formal documents don't specifically say the tax revision is for Japanese, Koreans, etc.... It is just that our media likes to be racially selective (or discriminatory) about cars . Also since are ever consumer loving car salesmen imports are from Japan, they just ake a lot of noise because their livelihoods are on the line

Well, according to these calculations, the excise duty (alone) of a Sorento would be 13-14million. I can see the guys advertising 2nd hand cars already bumping up the prices.

wonder anyone else has noticed a correlation between the vehicle stock of used dealers and higher taxed vehicles eg: x-trail, Prius.

@Kush.. It may not be a causal agent. More like a coincidence since these two happen to be the in demand "hybride" vehicles, and hence the market has been flooded with them.

I'm not sure this is 100% accurate. But for Honda Shuttle hybrid , the tax seems to be reduced. This is what I have. Hope it might help you.

These figures are pseudo without a proper technical evaluation, signs that the government goes to 1970-77 era again. Reminds Onion & Chili without spices .

The Government is killing dogs to seek money,only on consumable and expenses of people without Dhal and sprats as it says.

What are the step taken by Inland revenue to increase revenue from Sharks?. Nothing!.

Why Mazda has became the most luxurious Car in Sri Lanka than Benz & BMW ? . That is why new formula is called Pseudo without proper evaluation.

Decisions by Finance only people make more harm to a country and for organizations. They neglect other realities and ideas by other professionals.

Only ascertain facts in terms of money only. Once a Finance pundit said that a person can live on income of Rs: 2500/- a whole month. He later confirmed,

that sons an daughters of the family he said, can eat from University canteen at a subsidiary rate. This person still talking Bana for stupid people. We personally

know that how he handles his family for more than few 100 thousands of monthly expenses!. Other Finance only guys are same like, country suffers.

In this case. Only figures that the Government dreams. Where are the income taxes? Successive governments have failed to boost a railway services and Metros.

As a result more vehicle sales in Sri Lanka. Now the priorities are to collect money from vehicle sales.

Why more taxes on Hybrids and certain makes. A conspiracy to obtain Mercedes and BMW for Politicians ??. If have money do not buy Mazda or Toyota. Get a Mercedes.! Hurry, Use the avenue opened for Politicians . It is Cheap and bring less money for the Government.

Still Sri Lankan Government has no clear policy on Vehicle imports. Also no clear policies for transportation. Why they give tax concession on Dhal & Sprats.

It is not Saradial Policy as once RW stated. Only for their stability.

For poor people Indian Cars without any safety features. For more poor people Sparts & Dhal. Eat! For Income Tax crooks nothing ! - Sorry , Panama is there.

Here in SL for a short vacation too many vehicles on the road, I am 100% agree with cross wind as i haven't seen anyone talking about price reduction but increase, People i have spoken y'day already increased their 99 FB15 price by 2 laks.

Trying to figure all this out gave me a migraine....

Now no way am I saying that certain policies and regulation enforced in SL are sensible or has much foresight...but I have to ask....

What makes you think the tax revisions are not applicable for makes like Mercedes , BMW, etc...? As in the previous instances of tax revisions, the tables (mostly drafted by groups who, just like certain high rankers, are self serving rather than being civic conscious) only list out the common vehicles as they are ignorant and misguided enough to think something like a Prius is a luxury car and simply do not know any better.

So..now instead of Axelas and Priuses we will have an increased number of Vezels and electrics cars coming in again

One of my friends bought an axela 2013 before the last budgetary changes. Actually the prices went up whilst the car was on cargo. He personally imported it.This guy created a group of personal importers on FB, Had a media conference then got the chance to visit the minister. Result was that everyone got the chance to clear the vehicles without a change in tax.

About one week ago he wanted to sell the same for around 6million.Now he would definitely keep the car since its not just a car but a GOLDMINE!

Am i the only one here who is in favor of this taxing? this means there is opertunity for importing more Kei cars and cars like Vitz/Swift and so on for people who preffers buying Non hybrid cars.
