Thanks rija for sharing...

Fortunately, government of Japan (and also European and other governments too) investigating these kinds of things.

Who will come to protect Sri Lankan consumers in the event of seller misconduct (I mean not only for car market but for all) ??

Mitsubishi Y U do this to us faithful customers :sad-smiley-066::sad-smiley-068:

Not the first time....In 2001 or something Mitsubishi was found guilty of not reporting defects of their cars since the 1970s and instead of reporting just secretly fixing them up.

Over here, the biggest hit on MMC is the disgrace of lying as the media keeps emphasizing over and over again. As I wrote in the "Japanese Car News" thread the deception goes deeper and hurts their relationships with their partners.

Actual fuel economy figures apparently were 10-20% ff of what Mitsubishi claimed them to be. Nissan who shares the same models had done its own fuel economy tests as part of their due diligence had found that their Mitsubishi sourced models on average did 10% worst than what Mitsubishi claimed. When Nissan went to Mitsubishi with this data, the Mitsubishi engineers have said it is due to the difference in tires and other equipment Nissan puts in and had apparently shown new test results for the Nissan variants after "reverse" engineering the Nissan to a Mitsubishi; which again was false data.

So..the Japanese govt. is launching an investigation in to whether the false fuel figures would have impacted tax concessions given to buyers of the cars. In Japan large tax concessions are given based on a vehicle's fuel consumption and eco friednliness. So if the changed fuel figures makes these cars ineligible for these Mitsubishi/Nissan cars the govt is going to insist that Mitsubishi pay-up the taxes due.

for an already troubled car company like Mitsubishi this is going to be a huge blow. Their stock prices continue to fall.

I wander who will come to their rescue this time like Renault saved Nissan 15years ago. Daimler already backed out of the Mitsubishi joint venture, obviously due to many fundamental issues(transparency and compliance),maybe Peugeot?

Mitsubishi might be interested in joint ventures and sharing technology to minimize loss/ increase profit but they can survive without any bailout if it really come to that. Mitsubishi as a group is huge conglomerate

Being Big has nothing to do with financial status of a company. If other big branches are also making losses, being Big will only make the losses Bigger.Actually this is a problem of big Japanese companies like Sony,Sharp,Toshiba. All in Red. Mitsubishi has a aircraft business, which is also making big losses because the Regional Jet prototype has failed to create the expected interest ,and this week Mitsubishi lost a 40billion AUD submarine contract.

http://www.japantoday.com/smartphone/view/politics/japan-misses-out-as-australia-awards-sub-contract-to-france

so these troubles in the Motor section will not help.

15years ago Nissan and Mitsubishi were in a near bankruptcy position.Nissan chose internationalization and Mitsubishi chose the opposite. Now they are still paying for that mistake, ironically this scandal exposed by Nissan.

Which bit are you referring to? TATA buying Mitsubishi shares? Considering Jaguar is doing better than they ever have, I wouldn't think one should be too worried.

and there is more....MMC had submitted a report to the govt. over here and according to that; the fuel figures for a total of 9 models might not have been computed according to requirements !

- minicab Miev

- i-Miev

- minicab MiEV track

- Mirage <not sure if this the current one which is brought down from Thailand or the old one manufactured in Japan>

- RVR

- Outlander

- Outlander PHEV

- Pajero

- Delica D:5

Interesting, considering that iMIEV and iMIEV Minicab Van and Truck are all fully electric.

So evehicle range was also falsified?

Considering Renault ambition to buy Mitsubishi, maybe Nissan wants to weaken the competition to their Leaf evehicle?

Analysts said a tie-up would give Nissan access to Mitsubishi’s strong foothold in Southeast Asia and some key technology, including hybrids and minicars, which are hugely popular in Japan.

The move would also help drive Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn’s long-held target of running one of the world’s top three auto groups.

“Nissan has been less than perfect in emerging markets (such as Thailand, Indonesia, India) but Mitsubishi’s brand there is very strong.”

A tie-up would also be cheaper for Nissan since Mitsubishi shares have plunged by about 40% since the scandal broke.

Mitsubishi sold about one million vehicles globally last year, making it one of the smallest among Japan’s eight major automakers, also including Honda, Suzuki and Mazda.

The combined sales of Nissan, its French partner Renault, and Mitsubishi would top 9.5 million units annually.

That is not far behind the 10.15 million sold last year by Toyota, the world’s top automaker, and 9.9 million shifted by German giant Volkswagen.

Well...apparenlty there are some non compliancy issues with the rolling resistance thresholds used by Mitsubishi...so yeah it would effect even electric vehicles.

Early morning news over here was that Nissan would be buying out a part of Mitsubishi. Later on in the day business news headlines was that Nissan share values started to slip a bit because share holders were not very confident about the Mitsubishi Motors brand and wanted to off load their shares.
