Windshield Restoring

KrishE

Question

Hello Experts,

Does anyone know a good place to restore windshields of vehicles in Kandy (preferred)?

My car got acid rain marks on windshields, I think there is a way to cut and polish them?

Please advise.

Have a great day!

Thank you very much!

There is a product called Rainx and there are many..

Its a DIY work.. search on Youtube there are lots of Videos explains how to do it.

Once that is clean you do not need to put Vipers if you are running over 30kmph, rain drops will automatically drop off.

Only issue is that this will last around 6monts only and you have to do it again keep the glass at same level.

I think the OP was not referring to RainX. Would RainX work on a windshield that already has acid rain damage? I would imagine that it would just seal the spots in.

If I remember right, Mr. Sylvi used to do windshield restoration work?

RainX original is not a treatment for acid rain damaged windows. That's a rain repellent solution. RainX is best applied on a clean undamaged windshield and may cause streaking and other painful issues if applied on top of water spots and such.

RainX has a product called Xtreme Clean that is a glass and a plastic cleaner. That might work on acid rain spots. I used that to remove RainX original from my windshield (it was difficult to remove once applied). But Xtreme Clean was not available in SL and I had to get it down from US.

You can also try claybar-ing the windshield. Google has more info regarding this.

You live in KANDY and you have issues with mineral deposits / acid rain on your car? Strange. What part of Kandy do you live in?

As for removing the mineral deposits, its super easy. Get some vinegar, (any kind is fine even the coconut toddy based one which they put in pol sambol) and rub away as listed below:

1. Start by washing your windows and windscreen with water and soap to get rid of dirt, then rise everything off with clean water.

2. Then grab a clean microfibre towel with some vinegar on it (an old piece of jocka or baniyan material with the sqaures / waffle weave is what I use, but as AL is a fancy forum, assume I use a microfibre towel) and rub away at the spots on the windows and windscreen.

3. For a beautiful streak-free finish on the glass, rub off any remaining moisture with another clean, dry microfibre towel (I use clean newpaper for this last step, but again as above, you can roll with the microfibre towel...)

(Caution: Avoid getting the vinegar on any rubber bits or waxed surfaces. If that happens, its not the end of the world, just rise off the affected area with clean water as soon as you can.)

And Voila! You are done. No fancy chemicals, specialists or expensive procedures required; with the only drawback being that the pol sambol that day may lack a bit of acidity...

Kandy is the most polluted city due to vehicular traffic in Sri Lanka.

Kandy is the most polluted city due to vehicular traffic in Sri Lanka.

I just googled this and to my surprise you are absolutely right! Apparently the geography around Kandy (basically the mountain ranges that surround it) trap the polluted air in the immediate area, where as in Colombo the sea breeze serves to blow the air pollution away, resulting in Kandy having more air pollution...well lock me up and throw away the key! All this time, I thought scenic Kandy was where one heads off to recuperate and get away from polluted ole Colombo! :D
