Need A Trip Vehicle!

Hello Everyone, I read auto Lanka forum every day.

But still have trouble finding right vehicle for me..

Only vehicle I owned is VW beetle.

It was lot of fun but wasn't reliable.

Here are my requirements.

01. Weekend traveling vehicle

02. Suitable for rough road.

(little bit of offroading)

03. Most of the time just two people.

The biggest problem is my budget is only around 1million.

I prefer single cabs, But other suggestions are also welcome.

Only single cabs I found is tata xenon, Mahindra or jmc.

Or 1980 Japan cabs.

I travel around 200km some weekends on my bike.

So vehicle will replace it.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thank You..!

Well you could find the following for that budget, provided you prowl around a bit, and haggle hard

1980s Pajero 2 door ( with severe negotiation / condition)

Mitsubishi J44 / Safari / Jeep 4DR5

Land Cruiser BJ40 Swb / 2door

Daihatsu Rugger (80s)

Early Daihatsu Jeeps (local term) - easily approachable

Early Hiluxes

Early Isuzu Pickups

Early Nissan Pickups

Land Rover Series 2-3 (not recommended)

Willys Jeep / Mahindra Jeep

Mahindra Bolero (2000s)

Maruti Gypsy (provided you find one)

All with 4wd of course, but however given your budget, you won't be able to touch a mint example, but one with mild to moderate degree of work; reliability will be proportional to how much you spend on fixing

then again leave the fixing to the weekend :)

May I suggest a bj40? If you can stretch your budget you can get a decent Condition one. These are a somewhat old so you will have to expect future repair costs.

Thank You! Gummybr, The stig.

How about getting a bj40, old samurai, single cab for around 5/7 lax and repair it.

I found both bj40 and old samurai but not in good condition.

Both engine and the body.

Is 5 lax enough for that kind of repair? ( new engine, paint)

And does it worth effort instead of getting good condition one for +1 million.

Thanks everyone.!

Found two Suzuki Samurais like 2 years back when I was looking for one. One bearing a 17- number (0.7 mil) the other bearing a 302 number (1.3 mil) both were in pretty good shape and I checked them out. Doesn't suit highway speeds at all. Buy you wouldn't buy one for highway miles anyway. Great off road capability especially with great entry, exit angles and good gear ratios. Apparently, a Samurai has the world record for the highest place reached by a vehicle with 4 wheels.

Some great specimens come online for sale once in a while, like every 6-9 months or even rarer. You might have to grab one when these do come up for sale.

Do note, BJ40s have a lot of potential, and quite rewarding in terms of a long term build, if you are that type of enthusiast,

parts are rather easy to come by, and plenty of retrofits from Toyota lines,

In good nick it can be a hard core off-roader and still haul you around in the suburbs.

Also someday If you want to sell it, it is most likely to hold its value and even appreciate provided you restore her well.

End of the day its got the ol' diesel grunt too..

Thank You !

I like the BJ40. But most of them are not in my budget range.

Is there any place I have to look for?

Get a one for low price and repair it?

And also I checked some leasing yards here (kadawatha)

I found l400 wich is 14/13 lax,

Number is 62-XXXX

Manager said he can arrange the leasing.

But my friend who is working there told me that vehicle is there for a long time.

And the body condition is not good.

Any idea about it?

Thanks.
