Corolla Axio 2007 Fault

amilasri

Question

I own a 2007 Corolla axio and about six months ago when I stopped the car at a junction for signal lights, car stalled and when I cranked again it started without any problem but some time later I found that the check engine lamp was on. Then I took the car to the garrage where I got all the services and they scanned the system and said that the crank position sensor was faulty and replaced it. But when I got back home the same fault occured and I managed to take the car back to the garrage and they cheked again and said the faulty may be with the air/fuel sensor and they disconnected it and gave me the car and ask me to run for sometime. Thereafter I ran the car for about two weeks and I connected the A/F sensor and managed to run the car without any fault for about a month. Thereafter I went back to the mechanic and got the old crank position sensor installed replacing the new one and managed to run the car about three months without any problem. However about a month ago the same fault happed and I could not start the car even after disconnecting the A/F sensor and I had to tow the car to the garrage and they scanned again and replaced the A/F sensor. Thereafter I ran the car about a month and the same fault happed again and I managed to get the car started after few attempts. I took the car to toyota lanka and they also can't identify any problem. Can anyone help me solve this issue..

As I can remember, about 5-6 years ago the same issue was discussed in Autolanka. The main reason for this check engine light toyota vehicles with a VVTI engine was due to sludge being built up in the engine. It happens when the moist inside the engine gets mixed up with the engine oil. Some members in the forum said that it was due to moving the vehicle immediately after a cold start. You got to start it & let it be at least for 2-3 minutes until the RPM settles. They suggested to flush the engine once as a quick solution & it worked for a friend of mine who owned a Toyota Corolla 121 at that time. This was a common issue with VVTI engines & one member in the forum had to incur approx Rs. 140,000/- (as I can remember) to do an engine overhaul, due to sludge being built up. If I have time I will find the link in the forum & post it for your reference. Hope you will be able to rectify your issue asap.

Agree wtih Dafunkdi but in that case TL would have noticed it. BTW did you get your OCV filter (it is a small screen filter through which the oil is supplied to the Oil Control Valve (OCV) of the VVTi system) removed/inspected/replaced recently. OCV filter is one good indicator of whether or not your engine has a sludge problem. If the filter is clogged with hard sludge, then there is a good chance your engine needs a clean up. BTW didn't you get a check engine lamp indication after the sensor was removed?

Thanks everybody for the valuble advice..

@Rumesh88: I will get the the OCV filter checked for any indication...when the car was initially stopped the check engine lamp was on and after I got the car started it went off.

@Davy: I didn't get the code but the mechanic said that it was related to crank position sensor fault.

Thanks again
