Vehicular Emission Testing

Dear All,

In Sri Lanka, it is mandatory to have a emission test certificate to drive/ ride our vehicles on the road.

Are there any benefits having emission test certificate ?

Does anyone know about emission standards in Srl Lanka ?

Can, anyone elaborate the contents of a emission test certificate ?

Emission certificate is a prerequisite to revenue license except for hybrids and EVs. It is mandatory to have a revenue license and insurance certificate before you hit the road. However, you are supposed to keep the emission certificate all the time in your vehicle. But in case if you don't have it you can produce it at the courts if it goes that far. Other than the above reason the only benefit of having a emission certificate is that it gives you a sense of how good or bad your engine is. As for the standards of a gasoline vehicle they check for HC and CO levels at idle and 2500 RPM. The limits for HC and CO are 1200 and 4.5 ppm respectively. For more info search the forum.
