Fuel Smell

hi guys,

i have a nissan wingroad y11, yom 2000... there's a fuel smell when the engine is turned off after a run... a mechanic checked the line, but there was no physical leak... the smell comes only when fuel is below 1/3 of tank... does anyone know the issue...??

Could be a evap line leak. Check the surroundings of charcoal canister and evap purge valve area.

Just adding to what Ruslan said above. Immediately after a run open your fuel cap slowly and carefully while listening for the noise of air being sucked into the tank due to vacuum in the tank. If there is no vacuum you definitely have a leak in somewhere on the evap line (or fuel cap but unlikely in this case). This is not a complete test but something you can DIY.

yeah, there is a sound of air been sucked in when i open the fuel cap, but it only comes when the fuel level is below 1/3...

If that is the case then your fuel cap and the fuel vapor hose running up to the charcoal canister are OK. If the leak is further down the EVAP system then it has to be either from the canister itself or hose connections from canister to evap control valve to inlet manifold. Get someone check if the evap control valve is working and the hoses are not clogged up for, if not, the vapor may get vented to outside through the canister.
