Primera Tp12/ Civic Es8/ Subaru B4

Recommended Posts

So here goes my question. I am planning to buy one of these (Nissan Primera TP12, Honda Civic ES8, Subaru B4). My budget is 2 millions. But now I can't decide which to buy out of these 3.

According to your oppinion what can deliver the best overall satisfaction??

My major concerns would be performance, less trouble, looks ;) , reselling value and specially driving pleasure

I wouldn't mind less than average fuel economy and bit expensive maintainance (but not too much)

Or else is there any other option which i can consider within this range??

I know there are posts about this topic but I couldn't find a recent one. All of them were pretty old. I want to know the current condition. Hope this thread will be helpful to many people in the future aswel.

My satha deka:

1. Tp12 is an overinflated turtle. Not remotely as fun as te p11. With love it or hate it looks. I hate it. Center dashes only belong in minis.

2. Es8 would be a sensible car. Not a firecracker like the b4. But won't give you trouble.

3 b4, specially a manual will be the dogs bollocks. Not efficient. Oodles of power. All those turbos to make you wet your pants. Maintenance is costly and has to be timely. The auto box, as per mr Xavier lasts only around 150,000km after which it needs fixing

Look more laterally. There are other neat cars out there. An accord euro r? An integra? An SiR civic? An sti-6? Evo 6? Maybe even a BMW?

Aren't you the king of contradictory needs?

Less than average fuel economy is inversely propotional to reselling value

Expensive maintenance is inversely proportional to reselling value

Less trouble is inversely proportional to expensive maintenance

Looks and driving pleasure is inversely proportional to reselling value

In other words, you want a wife who is explosive in bed, will pleasure you three times a night and will get up in the morning to cook a delicious breakfast

Anyway here are some of my suggestions (in addition to what Komi suggested). All these have their looks but have their achilles heels as well...

Nissan Cefiro A33

Peugeot 406

Alfa Romeo 156

Subaru Impreza second gen

These satha deka worth 1000s rupees! ;) hows TP12s maintainance??

The latter mentined vehicles seems to be rare. I am currently using a civic ek3.And for the BMW I am afraid it would cost alot for maintainance. This is mostly going to be my parents money for maintainance and they'd very concerned :(

Does this all mean I am left with the civic ES8?? :) And please can you tell me what to look for if I am going for an ES8??

Thank you very much for being so helpful! :)

Thank you very much for those suggestions. I'll look for them.

I think the halothane is leaking in theatre...

And bro if it's your parents money, do the right thing. Buy a corolla. They'll be so proud of you. Forget everything else. As long as its not your money you have a responsibility towards the man paying the bill. I don't care how rich they are. As Far as automotive aathels are concerned, do it from your own money. If your not earning now, wait til you are. Buy a car you can sell at a profit and then think of all these things.

TP12 maintenance should be ok, though the car hasn't exactly been a hit.

If I had only 2 million to spend and maintenance cost was a massive concern think of the following

1. Whatever car you buy has to be VERY popular, as parts availability and expertise is propotional to the examples on the road

2. It has to be Japanese. The 406 has good parts avaiilability but most other Euros require specialists to maintain them, and friends to help source parts etc.

3. Should have beem made after 2003, probably 2005 or so, because parts for older Japs even really popular cars are increasingly becoming scarse due to import restrictions and lack of availability on source countries

I suspect that the corolla will hold it's value much now,

And why not buy one that suits is taste.

His dad may enjoy taking it for a spin every once in a while,

As long as hes able to take it to the garage when it needs to it would be ok.

So my suggestions would be the TP12 or the Cefiro A33 the Legacy B4 will be too much of a hand full,

as Dr.Honda hitha says the Accord will be good too.

If going mainstream i suppose a newer Lancer CS1 or a N17 will be better than a 15 year old corolla.

Komi, you absolutely nailed it. That's very sensible advice. There are parents out there who would end up taking their childrens advice simply because they do not want/like to disappoint them. And i know enough people who have abused this privileged or should i dare say loophole.

I've owned a TP12 but that was in 2003 just after it was introduced to SL and we sold it off in 3 years. Never had too many problems but there was zero driving pleasure and it handled like a boat. B4 would be fun but a pain to maintain and a lot of them are now abused so if you have your heart set on one of these cars go for the ES8. Its a sensible choice.

Agreed with that, don't play with your parent's money.

May be a 4AGE 20V powered Carina GT or a Corolla 110 GT for less than 2mn. For a little more you can fetch a Corolla Runx,

1.8VVTL-i, 6 forward....
