Corolla 1993 2C Cold Start Problem

chamilka

Question

Hi all,

I am having a problem with my Toyota Corolla CE100 2C engine. It always starts with a one single try for 8 months now after I bought it. However after the last service in which Diesel filter was changed, it takes longer crank to start in the morning. Still it starts with one try as always. But if stopped for around 8 hours or more it needs to be cranked longer to start than usual. I recently did a service for fuel pump and injectors are brand new. But I did the service after all that and the problem started since then.

Is it possible that the Diesel in the pipes are going back to the tank when it is stopped for a long time and needs more crank to come up to the fuel pump. If so where could be the problem?

Thank you in advance.

Yes.

There is a non return valve inside the pump head where the diesel filter is fixed.

Sometimes the feather in the valve get stuck allowing fuel to return in the line. It takes time. That's why you have to crank longer after several hours only.

When you crank the fuel line will be primed by the injector pump itself. It is an unnecessary burden for the Starter So, as Rumesh pointed out pump by hand until you feel it tight.

Do it for few days ( sometimes it'll be ok after few days in my experience) and if the problem persists replace the pump head.

Spot on.

Faulty hand pump head.

You may manually do it few days.

And sometimes it returns to normal.

I also had the same situation.

Pump heads are very cheap about 2500 recon or 1500 taiwan.

it's certain that fuel goes back as it only appeared after the replacement of the diesel filter.

either it's pump head (no return valve) is faulty or there's air leak through the rubber seal of the new filter either due to a bad quality filter or fitted incorrectly.
