Nice work. Looks really neat. Is the roof lining Alcantara?

Little piece of advise make sure the engine is not a 2007 model, they had some issues because of which many were replaced through warranty.

yeah heard the same as well. most of the engine sent to africa was changed inder warrenty for head cracks. i read onlline that the reason was they were not that good handling high temperature environments.

It was not just the South African market vehicles, even the ones imported brand new had same issue. South African market story comes from the vehicles that were imported by a third party which were meant for SA market and they were ditched in UK for years because of issues and they were bought by our third party importers for a cheep price and were imported, all were HCPU's so now they must be running full body conversions, that's why you got to be very careful with the early Defenders. Ones brought brand new came for the forces and the government during the SAARC days.

Some useful Info.

I am just enjoying my Drive without a problem at present. Guess any car brand will have their UPs and DOWNs. So... lets enjoy what we drive while we can.

ALL THE BEST

Thanks for the info Gummybr, i think if i remember right the main problem was over heating. the main cause was that the vehicle were imported by a third party and those were specifically designed for EU cold\moderate climates. drop the same horse in a desert and you are done.. please correct me if im wrong.

BTW what did u mean by being careful with early defenders??

Guys,

The clutch paddle of the land rover defender 110 (1987) is quite hard to push. Literally, it is rock hard..... It seems that the vehicle is manufactured in such a way. Our driver always complain that it is a pain to drive the vehicle specially in urban traffic. Is there a way to correct this limitation......

Defenders are built that way, they have very heavy clutches as standard. You'd need to look at some form of assistance for the clutch. Google "Red Booster", people say good things about their product.

Thanks Supra,

Yesterday, I came across this option. Gonna ring them and find the price....

I know its hard but ROCK HARD means something is not right

Did you use a new clutch kit when doing the restoration ?. Fitting new master and slave pumps & hose and lubing the clutch return spring can give some mild releif if its really that bad.

On the plus side you do get a really strong left leg :)

My knowledge on Land Rovers is very limited, but I went through all the info/videos on their website and this is pretty impressive. It being a Sri Lankan product is just awesome! A good investment if the original clutch is unbearably stiff (like in OP's case) I would say.

Have seen and tested the apparatus and know the manufacturer personally, lotta thought and effort has been put into it and has amazing results, long lasting, made of good bits.

The Cons- The clutch feels 'Freelanderish' , the purist may say you loose the whole land-rover feel, I simply didn't add it when I had mine as I didn't want to complicate as clutch is a trouble-maker by default in landys..

Its definitely the best choice rather than going for UK based kits or bodging up something from a Fuso truck etc..
