A soup'd up looking version of the GR Yaris has been spotted on the Nurb. ring last week.

Speculation is that it is a GRMN GR Yaris, so a limited edition high"er" performance variant. People are expecting it to have about 340hp (as opposed to the stock 269hp in JPN 262ish in other markets).

Again the power output is pure speculation based on the fact that in Japan HKS has been testing out and tuning up the GR Yaris which they have managed to put out 340hp. Earlier on they claimed they managed to increase the power figures simply by increasing boost but never indicated what the power figures were.

Looks like Toyota is onto a winner. Just need to make sure they don't overprice it. It's going to fight the likes of Fiesta's and the Renault Twingo's with more power.

340 hp in that thing? Wow! Must be dead cool: Talk about a 'hot hatchback'!  But do they have some kind of torque vectoring system to keep all that FF torque steer in check?

*also damn it ! This is why Nissan is getting left in the dust: They have virtually nothing even close to this do they?

The RZ High Performance comes to about  4.9mil yen with registration (so with financing it is about 5.3mil yen after 5 years of interest). RZ variant (without the intercooler spray and LSD) is about 4.5mil yen. The RC....which is a stripped out variant for race teams (so has all the stuff from the High Performance variant except for the fancy TV and stereo, stuff) comes in at about 3.9mil.

They also have the CVT variant which has the 1.5L engine is about 2.6mil (so drive away price would be close to 3mil). But so far they have not sold any of that according to my local GR Garage.

It is an AWD car with a active torque splitting system...60:40 in normal mode. 30:70 in sport mode and 50:50 in track mode. Takes a nit of getting used to driving slow in town...there is torque right across the rev range and with the strange sound it was quite difficult to figure out the shift points at the beginning. It begs to be driven hard and when you do push it..it just goes (assuming you find the gear to actually start off in). Also, it comes with iMT...which is a pain in the ass if you can drive a manual...

The new BRZ is supposed to have a 2.4L engine (so more power); carry over the same platform as the previous model.
It will be officially revealed on the 18th of November !!! WOOHOO !
I must say...bestcar has nailed it again with their renditions (pic 2)

Nissan did a digital unveil of the new Nissan Navara pickup truck..it does look pretty impressive...
Lets hope this model does not have the Spontaneous and Dynamic Shape Shifting feature of the previous model ?

(Car starts at 5.30)

Was watching some reviews, they say it's the same 2015 model with some new kit, more like a facelift I would say. The interior is the same old if you actually look at it. For the folks in the US it's a new model though as they had to live with the version that came in 2005 I think.

Not heard of the shape shifting issue in the new model I must say. It was always the older D40 that was notorious. This they call the D23.

Oh really? OMG. No wonder it (the old Navara) didn't sell many units in the US! :D

The old D40 sold in the US, it was one of them that did 1mil miles I think and Nissan gave the fellow a new one, an upgraded D40 with a 3.8l engine I think can't remember the whole story.

US have been complaining about the age old vehicle. I was just reading that there will be a new Frontier for the US.

When people complain about the cvt gearbox the updated D40 in US got a 9/10 speed auto.

Yeah...that is what I felt too....figured they would have done something new with it technically though...but seems like nothing much. It could be that it was an update to the old platform but actually is a new model. So it could explain if a lot of things actually do feel the same with similar characteristics. However, even Nissan Japan say it is a new model (i.e. full model change).

As for the US...no..the US got the D23 in 2014...the D40 pretty much stopped production globally around 2015.

EDIT: Gummy Bear was right...the US did retain the D40 until now whilst the rest of the world went with the 23 series. The 23 has been in South America since 2014/2015 and is assembled made in quite a few places in the S.A continent. The D40 production for the US (America and Canada and Central American region) was shared between Mexico and the US plants and the Mexico plant went for the D40 in 2015...but the US apparently did not.

The Pro-4X version would be a fun addition if we get it in Asia....In fact it might do quite well as the Hilux TRD and Ranger Raptor are doing quite well in SEA markets (even though it is 80% dress up than being the actual thing).

No sir, beg to differ. See the below screenshot from Nissan US site. Its still the same old model for them. But the Latin American countries would have got the D23 model.

I stand corrected ! Interesting...probably because they were focusing more on the Titan. But yes....the 23 is there in South America...made in quite a few places too. The D40 production for the US (America and Canada and Central American region) was shared between Mexico and the US plants and the Mexico plant went for the D40 in 2015...so I suppose the US simply did not.

As for the new one....no idea what it actually is...it does look like a facelift (and some reports do call it a facelift)...but then Nissan Japan says it is a model change...

Toyota is busy getting ready for their pre-sales exhibitions for the Toyota Mirai before it goes on sale next month (I think).

Not a big fan of the blue whale like face but the side shape is nice. Being a RWD "sports sedan" the car uses the same GA-L platform the Crown which the Lexus LS and Century uses; however production is at Toyota's Motomachi plant mixed with the production of the Crown (which uses the GA-L platform).

I have to agree that front doesn't look sporty at all. Is this supposed to replace the Lexus GS? Why though? I thought the GS was being phased out due to poor sales? So why phase it out and replace it with ole ugly here?

The US truck market is a pretty important one isn't it? (I think we discussed before how the F150 was the #1 selling vehicle over there or something...) So if Nissan gets a decent truck into that market at a really good price they'd go a long way to getting themselves out of the hole they are in now won't they? How come Nissan isn't taking this more seriously? Or is this because its the smaller truck that is sold there and they are saving all their research / development money for the bigger ones (Frontier and Titan trucks) that go head-to-head with the Ford F150 and F250

No..not a replacement for the GS..nor the Mark X....just another sedan as Toyota's Fuel Cell solution.  The key being pushing a Fuel cell solution.

The thing is on one hand in Japan, the luxury sedans are holding up quite well...the Crown and LS are selling...and out of sedans the Camry and Corolla are also not too bad and barely enough to make sense of having them. Nissan, Honda and Mazda are having problems because their models are too globally focused and the former two simply do not have new models and are not competitive (just like the Allion and the Premio).

Globally, Toyota is having a good time with sedans in the US...the GS' problem was that it was old...the car was a 10 year old model and pitted against the BMWs and Mercs it simply did not make sense. It did not make sense even with the new LS being launched. Toyota was having trouble with the IS as well as the model simply was becoming too boring. The new refresh helps with the improved suspension and aggressive looks...BUT compared with the new models from Acura, BMW, Merc it still is at the bottom of the pile.

Here's the autocar review of the Yaris GRMN.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/toyota/gr-yaris/first-drives/toyota-gr-yaris-2020-uk-review

Still 0-100kmph is 5.5secs even with 257hp, about 25 years ago there was a Sunny / Pulsar GTiR (227hp and 0-100kmph in 6.4s) that had similar performance from a less powerful engine which never had good reviews. Wonder what a car that would have been those days.

ere's the autocar review of the Yaris GRMN

Yaris GRMN is quite different from the GR Yaris....Yaris GRMN = Vitz GRMN which were limited run cars with either the 1.5L or 1.8L turbo charged engines. The Yaris GR used the same platform as the Yaris/Vitz whilst the GR Yaris has its own platform (a mix between the small Yaris platform and the larger Prius/Corolla platform.

Yes the GTiR had pretty bonkers specs...some tuning fanatics have managed to get the GTiR do 0-100 within  4 - 5.5 seconds as well.

The GR Yaris is prettyimpressive....it hugs the road like crazy which makes it amazing fast on the corners. The Japanese variant has 268hp as opposed to the 257 the Euro spec version gets. Owners who have gotten it so far seemed to have gotten around 5secs. With some with RC variants (lesser weight) clocking in at about 4.8ish.

The thing with the GR Yaris is that...it doesn't feel like the car is going to kill you. I always got that feeling with souped up Evos and WRXs at some point in time. This one...no...nothing...nada..this might be a bit of buzz kill for some enthusiasts. One thing I did not like was the sound...it just is not there. Around town it is quite quiet and when you step on it you hear a bit of buzz coming in to the cabin (amplified by some speaker on top of the driver's seat). This was a RZ High Performance...the RZ does not have anything. Toyota claims the stock exhaust is more for city driving comfort and if you want something more exhilarating you need to upgrade :P
