flyboy320,

Get a engine with complete gear box. Then there will not be any problem connecting to your final drive.

Then what you have to do only change engine mounts, Shorten or lengthen the driving shaft only.

Get the same Radiator or little bigger one so that no boiling problem also.

If not our Mechanics will try to modify the same gear box to fix the new engine.

I once converted to Toyota KE20 engine with gear box to a 4 Sri Skoda car about 30 years ago.

AIYO........ :sad-smiley-034:

If you really want to put in an engine at least put in a Ford Escort Mexico engine and modify it to be a Ford Escort Mexico, if you know what it is!.

of course i know what a escort mexico is my friend , i know my share of history about escorts , looool , its practically impossible to find an engine like that in SL , and if ur lucky u might find one in UK for about 7000 pounds , (just for the engine ) so do u think its viable to bring it down to Sl . knowing about cars and being practical is two different things.

Are u sure you can't find an Escort mexico engine here in SL? Isn't that the same engine that went in to 2 litre Cortinas and Sierras?

if im not mistaken no its different

@ flyboy320 there is another Ford Escort being restored and it might be good if you contact him as well,if I were you i will buy an Escort and restore it to factory spec and keep it stock only extras would be alloys and AC if possible

(lol at least for me) ive seen some proper done up ones and they look damn sexy . the hard part will be finding a 2 door mk1. theres plenty of 4 doors around but its just not the same.

Is your estimation of 7000 pounds after verification of prices in the UK????? :action-smiley-012: There are the RS1600 (160bhp) and the RS2000(240bhp) for less than 500 pounds in the UK some even with the gear box, so be resourceful and do your own investigations as if there is a will there is a way.! :) There are regular shippers from the UK to SL and they will not charge you an arm and a leg to get an engine down to SL. The full cost will be no where near your 7000 pounds. Practicality is one thing reality is quite another.

If you decide to put in some japanese engine and even bud the front off some other car, and bud the butt off some other car and make your Escort, which is a classic in its own right, into a "oluwa Japan bada German kakul Italy" model it is none of my business but what concerns me is a classic car losing it's true value, after all how many Escorts do we see around today??????

Exciting project no doubt. But I hope you know how "not easy" it is going to be. Your idea is quite vague. You really need to start with what kind of car you are looking for - the end result. Simply slotting a Jap turbo engine into an Escort can give you an ill-handling car at best or an undrivable car at worst, which either way will be a lot of wasted time and money.

You need to find an engine that weighs similar and is located similar. For the increased power you need to beef up everything - brakes, sus and so many other things. "Power is nothing without control" :)

I think you really need to go onto some specialist fast Ford forums (google is everyone's friend ;) ) where people have successfully done this kind of thing and learn. Your post above only indicates to me (and I could be wrong - but it's incredibly brief and vague to take very seriously) that you have no idea and are just at dream stage.

In my opinion restoring an old car to original spec is one of the hardest tasks in Sri Lanka. Swapping an unrelated engine will only add to it.

If you want more performance from an 'Scort you need to consider the following first.

1. What's the maximum I can get out of massaging the current engine - Most practical and retains the originality

2. Swap the engine with a bigger/more powerful engine that appeared in the model. - That's what most people are doing and for good reasons.

After you have detemined that these routes are not enough for your Godzilla slaying ;) Escort, only then you should consider a turbo Japanese engine swap provided you know the level of mods, work and money involved and realise how easily things can go wrong.

actually flyboy, stick around. i beleive there's another forum member modding an escort. you might just pick up some queues. there's always a wealth on info right here on AL. check out my datsun thread when i start work on it as well. as GTam said, i'll be going for a bigger engine in the same class and then massaging that til it jizzes all over my hands! i'm talking SSS camshaft, twin carb down draught intake and the works. that's well over 120HP from a 45 year old 1.6 liter engine.

all that for under 40,000. including the cost of the engine. i too considered EFI jap swaps for mine, but the hardware alone is 250,000+ (you'd be lucky if you found it at that price) and the changes which have to be done to a classic to take the pain is just brutal. i couldn't do it. didn't have the heart.

Hi Guys,

Nice to see another escort coming live. My project has been a bit on hold. But I managed (I hope) to source an engine. And as advised by the members I am planning to put the car in for body work soon.

Any idea of a price for a full tinkering of a car. Komi has your friend got any quotes for body work of his escort? I saw the pics of it on FB.

Cheers,

That depends on how good or bad the body is and will vary from tinker to tinker. Some of the best guys are very expensive. It's best to get recommendations based on previous work done and ask for a quote from a few and compare. Can you show us some close up pics?

"Whats The Best Engine For A Ford Escort"

Simple answer is the factory fitted engine for that particular model.

Bcoz it's the best engine that engineers decided to fit to it. :)

Yes, back in 1967 when the car was designed... The almost half century since then has yielded several improvements in the automotive field.

Don't try to chime in on stuff you have no idea about, it makes you look like an idiot. Stick to discussing FB15 fuel consumption ok?
