Good Tyre Brand....!

Earlier when I bought the car I had no idea about road noise and comfort.Generally I thought to avoid CE#T or Chinese tyres. The car had GT Classiros on it.So I changed two with GT Champiro. There was not much of a difference as a remember but,I replaced the front with Falken Sincera(Thai made) few years ago and there was a considerable reduction in road noise. Now I have Falkens in the back and when I wanted to change the front with the falkens, there was no stocks in kegalle,so replaced with Kumho and it seems to me as the worst set of tire I’ve ever used.Road noise is extremely high. When I travel around 30kmph noise level is high as it was doing 60 with the previous set.Horrible.I would never recomment Kumho to anyone ever!!!

Bought Nankang for the first time and comparing to Bridgestone, and Westlake there is a huge improvement.. Noise is very less in the  highway, and comfort is higher in the Nankang comparing to the other two... Realized the Bridgestone is a shitty tyre after upgrading to Nankang.

Whats the Nankang thread pattern (model) you got ?

Got myself a set of Continental CC6 ComfortContact 185/65R15  for Rs16,000 each on my Aqua from a place in Mirihana. This was only Rs50/- more each than Ecopia EP300 which I have lost faith in due to low mileage claims. (Previous Ecopia EP200s wore out at 27,000kms and were moderate handling at best)

CC6s are Possibly the quietest tyres I have driven. At low speeds I can only hear the electric motor noise. I do not try risky manouvres while driving, therefore am not able to comment much on the edge of its capabilities, but at usual speeds which I drive they behave as expectd fom a premium tyre. So far Im pleased with them. it handles highway speeds with not much additional noise and it is supposed to last over 50k KMs

Any recommendations for a set of 245/45 R17 95Y tyres? Preference is currently on a set of Michellin's but recommended places to get them and all insights are welcome.

D*MO Tyre mart Wattala gave a good deal on 4 Michelins for my Civic in 2016. Very happy with their tyres and service. Afterall they are the agent for Michelin.

So far I have run approx. 20k on them over 2 years and it doesnt even show on the tyres.

I have used 185x70x13 GT Radial (classiro) type 86H Indonesia, thread wear 340 set of tires for 50000km on my CE110.

Had to replace because tires are worn from two sides but center thread still good. [lack of air pressure on front wheels :( ]

I did 65,000k with my GT Radial (Malaysian) with my IST (185 x 65 x15). Sides have some issues if you hit sides in a tough surface.I think its pretty good to do 65K with reasonable price.

It is better to avoid M*G C**Y - Katugasthota for alignment

I did the alignment for my car and just as the routing test without having any major trouble, But after alignment car going to drag one side and become worse.

After one week I did the Alignment again from Dehiwala ( cannot remind name of place ) and It prety decent job.

They did using PC and give free alignment test after 2000 km

Amilaart, you are correct. I went  to the one at  T.B Jaya Mawatha they too  make things  worse. they say it as done by a specialist when its just a normal  person operating a computer. I  too experienced  what  you say.  Thank  you for  sharing the info..

Is there anybody in the forum with experience on using  Bridgestone Ecopia EP200's (Thailand) ? My set has worn off completely and i have done just about 16,000km's!!. Actually there's no tread remaining at all. It's really disappointing and I'm planning to take the car to the agents which is Autodrome and make a claim. There seems to be a factory defect on them. Othewise; how can the entire set ware off so quickly...

Under-inflated tyres? Maybe old batch (check expiry date of the tyre)?

You know me ne machan.. with all that car pissuwa i regularly check the tire pressure and keep it to the specs of the car.. :)

What's so confusing is that the entire surface of the tire is flat. it's not uneven.
tires have worn off like butter. Will share a pic or two when i get the chance.

My regular fuel station offers tire inflation service for free (think it's mandatory by law) - however, the tire pressure gauge they have is way off despite it being new. It registers the tire pressure as 40psi when both digital tire pressure gauges I have say the tire pressure is 34psi  :angry-smiley-044:

That's the sole reason why i don't check tire pressure from the same place always.  Even when i do it at a fuel station i always do it myself. Inner ware due to over inflation or outer ware due to under inflation would be clearly visible on the tires itself. But in my case; the tires have just worn off completely flat. Will see what the Autodrome people have to say.

Keep us posted!

So, I went to Autodrome last Tuesday and here’s what happened.

I showed all my service records and bills and showed my tires to the manager at the service station. He went through all the documents and inspected the tires and even he could not come up with a good explanation on what may have caused this unusual wear on my tires. He checked the alignment of the tires as well and there was a slight misalignment which may have attributed to the ware but it was not the sole reason. I asked him that I previously ran on Dunlops, GT’s and Nankangs which lasted for more than 30K but why does these Bridgestones gone flat in just 15,000km’s? So, he was like, Dunlops are hard but these ecopias are built for comfort and fuel efficiency and they tend to wear of quickly even due to slight misalignments. But I asked him even so, you expect them to last at least 30k isn’t it? He acknowledged it but again re-iterated they have to be taken care of. In the end he offered me a new set of tires at a very low price. He offered 11k for 17k worth tires at a special discount which was actually a good deal. I didn’t have complete evidence to back my claim as I have lost one of my wheel alignment reports and he was saying that these tires can ware off even due to a slight misalignment.  So, all in all people at the place was very helpful and I think the offer was reasonable as well. But, with his comments I was reluctant to go ahead with Ecopia’s again even though he promised me a higher mileage with them given that the wheel alignments should be done with them at 5000km intervals.

So, my verdict on Bridgestone Ecopia 200’s (Thailand) is, it gives you a very comfortable ride with minimum road feel but that comfort is provided by sheets of rubber which melts like butter on sri lankan roads. So even with very good care, they will not last long. I believe when you purchase your tires; you need to consider the country of origin as well. I believe the durability of Japanese Bridgestone’s are still way ahead compared to the Thailand ones.

And it’s time for tire hunting elsewhere…

*UPDATE:

Went tire hunting on the weekend. Didn't went with high end brands this time and thought about experimenting with mid range ones.
Finally ended up with a set of Federal Fermoza AZ01's at 12,000 a piece (195/55/R15).
It seems like a good option for the price. Not quiet as the previous Ecopias with little bit of road feel but actually i like it.
Handling, Cornering and Braking seems to have improved a lot. Let's see how they perform as they age.:)

Well I'm amazed that the manager took responsibility for your loss and offered a new set of tyres for a discounted price. Kudos to Autodrome

Has anyone used a tyre brand called "Landsail"? Those tyres are manufactured in China. My requirement is 195/45R17. I have limited options. Bridgestone (31000), Kumho-korean (21000), and this brand Landsail (12600). Name is bit odd. Feels like grip is not good. But price is very low. Please share your experience if you have used this brand recently.

Chinese tyres will last about 2 years and 20-25000km. Bridgestone and Kumho will last about 4 years and 40000km. I have used Chinese brands and Kumho/Brdigestone etc. For ordinary driving, wet performance and dry performance are not much different. Only problem is durability. So its a matter of cost-effectiveness.

Thank you Crosswind. So Chinese tyres are safe for ordinary driving, are they? I want to buy those for an Aqua.

yes they are ok for ordinary driving. If you plan to drive a lot in heavy rains and on the highway for example, you should stay away from them.
