Mitsubishi L400 - Speedo Sensor

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a speedo sensor for my 1995 Mitsubishi L400 Spacegear. (The unit that plugs into the gear box, which generates the signal for the speedometer)

The vehicle has a 4D56 Turbo engine and auto transmission, which I assume was shared with the Pajero and L200 Strada models of same era.

I haven't checked at Panchi or any of the recondition parts shops yet, and actually a bit pressed for time to search through many shops.

So if anyone here could give me a lead to a place or two where I could find this part, that will be highly appreciated.

If you take the part out and go to Panchikawatte, you should be able to find the part. Unfortunately Mitsubishi does not have any specialist private dealers like a lot of the other brands. The other option is to go to a Unimo outlet. Like you say the part must be fairly easy to source since the 4D56 engine is quite popular.

MD, thanks for the reply mate.

Yes I think that's what I'll have to do.

The speedo went kaput last time I was in SL and a quick check at an auto electritian found the sensor to be the culprit. Made a few calls to parts dealers and some of them had the unit for Pajero but they were unable to confirm if the same would match L400 gearbox. Ran out of time so just left the car unfixed.

Going back to CMB for a short visit and trying to get the thing fixed in the shortest possible time.

There is a web site called amayama which could help you get the Mitsubishi part number. Follow the link

http://www.epc-data.com/

You can even order the part through them but once you know the part number, you can find the part even from overseas. Also if you have the VIN you can usually buy the part from any Mitsubishi dealer anywhere in the world (as long as the car was sold their but in your case the part is probably shared amongst many models).

haha Hardhat MD and Don are two people :)

Anyway if you're heading to Panchi, try Weerasena motors near Divulgashandiya junc.they have some new and used Mitsubishi parts. Also if you're not fussy about not putting in OEM spareparts, the 555 branded spare parts for Mitsubishis are rather good and widely available.I have some on the Strada.Beware though.make sure the 555 stuff are genuine Japanese cos there are duplicate Taiwan 555s too.

It is a little bumpy and the high ride leads to a high center of gravity. Why don't you take a test drive and decide for yourself.
