Unusual Noise Near T-Belt

Ek3 Ferio

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is become real headache now. It was just only 2 weeks after replacing the T-Belt and Seals. Now a few days back I noticed a some unusual sound (chiki chiki) just like a belt touching with some metal part at around 2000 rpm. IN higher RPMs it rarely here due to the noise of the engine.

So I again took the car to the garage. They removed everything just like two week ago replacing T-Belt. But nothing was wrong. Then re fixed everything. But the sound is same. The only their guess is water pump. But they said no need to replace it now as it is looking good. (I dont know how to say it is good by looking it at)

SO I had to returned with the same sound.

Need your expert idea will a water pump caused to make such a noise?

Thanks,

If you have a bad water pump the engine will be overheating and usually you will be able to see coolant leak close to the right tyre .I went through the same issue sometime back on my Mazda 3 and replaced the water pump, to diagnose the issue they disabled the water pump and there was no noise and when it was working the noise started again.

I highly doubt the water pump because this noise started immediately after replacing the T-Belt kit and hope you replaced them with genuine ones.

Good mechanics have a little device that looks like a doctors stethoscope that they can use to isolate a bearing making noise. You need to figure out exactly which bearing is making the noise and replace the associated part. At times what happens is they over tighten the timing belt causing bearing noise and premature wear.

My knowldege on T-belts is very limited but to me, it sounds like something wrong with a tensioner. Did you replace the tensioners with genuine ones or did you get them modified at a lathe workshop?

Actually It is like this. I replaced the T-Belt at Kesbewa some times ago. At that time mechanic said no need to replace oil seals as there are no leaks and they looking good. I asked him several times but the answer is no need. So after the T-belt & tensioner only replacement I ran around 20k kms and noted a oil leak T-Belt side. So this time I thought not to go to the previous mechanic. I usually go for another mechanic near to my working place as going Kesbewa is not easy every-time. So went there this time and removed T-Belt cover to identify oil leaks, but actually two oil seals were again good no leaks from them. So he suspect the leak from oil pump. So removed it and replaced the seals.

But once we removed tje T-Belt cover noted that T belt was too loosy and can be removing without loosing the tensioner as well, further noted that no labels are visible and belt is shinning a lot. So he sugests me it is not good to run like this and better replace the T-Belt coz he thought it was not an genuine one. So this time replaced T-Belt and both oil seals, but not the tensioner as it was replaced last time and working ok as per the mechanic.

So I have no idea if the tensioners is genuine.

I dont see any over heating. And there is no coolant leak as well. And where did you get the repair done?

Don do you know such a mechanic? Now I have fade up with these both mechanics I was used to go.

I go to Mazna Motors at Pepiliyana, they specialise in Mazda....There is a guy named Wasantha near my place in Kalubowila who is a Honda specialist...

Well the guy who I know who performed that sort of analysis is a chap called Wasantha off base line road, but I must admit if you let him buy the parts he will take you to the cleaners :)

I have a more reasonable mechanic called Sisira and he works in a garrage on the attidiya road between gansaba junction and sunetra devi junction just after the bridge (the place is called Shamila motors and run by a chap called Chooti).

Weekend I went down to Matale and came back now the noise has become very annoying, now it has all the time.

Personally man, I would not run the car until you confirm where the noise is. If a bearing or something jams your T belt will break and the pistons can hit the valves and you might need a new engine!

Yeah personally agree with you and I was a person exactly thinking like you sometimes back. :D But you know creature called woman has no idea what is called T-Belt, Piston and values. So no point of explaining them to those.... :D

Anyway couldn't do anything these days as I was not well, going tomorrow to see Rohan Kesbewa.... Will see what he finds out....

Machan that fellow told me thermo valve and vacum lines are not necessary to fix in my D15B3 sometime back. (Which are vital for proper function). So I dont trust that guy. Anyway update us with his diagnosis.

Issue fixed. It was due to the too tightened T-Belt.

H.C you mean Rohan? Hmmm regarding the Thermostat Value, most of the mechanics not saying that is a must to have machan. I have asked from several mechanics before removing my one due to a blockage in the value. But personally I would like to have it replace it rather removing. But still I couldn't go to teck to buy a new one after removing the old one a few months back.

Yep he is . Actually I wanted to rectify thermo valve, and related vacum lines which plays a vital role in D15b carb setup(not the thermostatic valve in cooling system). Anyway its glad to see you have got it fixed .

It seems same noise starting to hear slightly again after running 500-600kms, and there is tappet noise as well if accelerated suddenly. Even when you go 4th gear around 50kmph and suddenly accelerated you can hear "taka taka taka" noise. The noise is not going away while you keep accelerating, It goes away when you release the accelerate and again press again slowly. :(

The tappet noise might be due to an issue with your oil pump or oil lines from your description. The taka taka noise is a bit worrying. Have it checked out straight away. Any metallic noises coming from the engine should be immediately inspected.

Hi ferio best way to find is actually open the bonet and and listen for yourself from where the actual sound coming from...I have gone to several maka bases before to find out a annoying sound like this...Some were ready to replace engine mounts and everything.Got fed up and i tried to figure it out my self.guess what it was a loosen radiator fan hitting it's case at certain times..Anyway since the sound came after you replaced the T-belt..Make sure the tensioners are new as well.If not you are going to get screwed soon running like this..Park it on a good steep hill facing down or up tell someone to apply foot breaks only. All the loosen sounds will come.
