Nick Names For Cars In Sl

Hola

Recommended Posts

Some more ...

Mitsubishi Rosa buses made during late eighties to mid nineties were affectionately known as 'Baby Rosa'

There was a box-shaped Fuso single door bus made in the late 80's, known as Petti-Fuso or literally Petti Pooso

Toyota Coaster buses that are currently being imported are known as 'Bola Coaster'

There is also a 'Sinha Moona' Vanette but not sure which model is this and there's also a 'Bongo Vanette' (This is actually a rebadged Mazda Bongo so that wouldn't really qualify as a nick name)

And we also have a lorry called 'Mukkan Moona' TATA.

The latest of vehicle nicks is probably the nick given to the Mini Truck launched by TATA in 2005, officially named TATA Ace and known in Sri Lanka as 'D*MO Batta'.

Sinha moona is the currently importing mazda bongo and its re-badged versions.

D-MO batta name is actually named by the company, not by the folks.

Some more additions.

- 2000 upwards Galant (65-) = Police model (Will they give the same name to the new elentra?)

- The pajero which came after the computer body was called the "Intercooler".

- It came with crystal lights as the "Mahaththaya model"

- The new Lancer is called "Shark face" (mora)

- The last face lift of the 121 (121R) = "Diki Light"

- The face lifted allion "Mal light"

I think the last 2 names came out after the forum was started but no need of posting everyone knows them.

Some call hummers hammers and defenders dependers (these may be pronunciation problems)

- In most of the cars the 'teak panels' are made of plastic.

- What's the meaning of 'tin body'? This essentially means that the body is not repaired with fillers / cataloy paste, but why 'tin'? Is the body of the car made out of the metal 'tin'?

:D not sure about this but some one said tin body means, when you tap the body of the vehicle it makes a tin tin sound, thus making it a tin body.. :D:D

and what the hell are boku alloys???

Just a few thoughts on how SL vehicle advertisements might look like in 2025 - 2030 (if anyone is lucky enough to live by then)

- 2010 Prius for sale - Rs. 8.5 mil negotiable (since its a Toyota, the value will increase, BTW the 141 will be like 15 mil).

Converted to kerosene oil (since the battery pack is busted, and petrol is Rs. 7500 a liter).

Only 15000km Genuine mileage. ;)

Solar panels converted to sunroof.

Push Start (as in, push the car to start - Since the push button won't pop back after being pushed for so many years)

Intelligent key (Only the key knows when the circuits will work, so keep on pressing)

etc.

Note - Absolutely no offense intended towards Prius owners. Couldn't think of any other car which would survive till then.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Old Box Wagon..I think 1988 model is called "Wijeyaweera Model"..since the the late JVP leader used it apparently...

Actually it is called as "Attanayake Model" as wijeweera used that alias while hiding in Ulapane.

In fact the price of a vehicle with boku alloys is high.

The price goes even higher when the boku alloys are dressed with 'sudu akuru tyres' (tyres labelled with white lettering)

I love Sri lanka..! :jumping-smiley-013:

For land rover fans... We have Land rover "Malariya Model"

Apparently those were the series Land rovers which had a pressure machine mounted on the back to spray malathion during those malariya days in 70-80 ies

Toyota starlet gt's and glanza's are called pocket rockets

That`s not just in SL context. Basically any fast small car (mostly hatches) I guess.
