Good Mechanic For A Gdi Turbo Engine, And Pejero Io Repairs

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can anyone please point me to a person, workshop that is actually good on GDI Engines & Pajero IO.

No point in going to UM since the work they do is crappy!!!

Also I'm not much satisfied with my present mechanic. He seems to be changing his word all the time 'n although he's from UM I'm beginning to have doubts over his expertise. (The guy seems to be ripping me off!!!)

I'm getting fed up with the troubles that seems to increase day by day with my jeep and if I recall correctly everything started after the first injector clean up.

Really tired of searching for places of GDI specialists, n am doubting if I can locate a person who has the correct knowledge on the vehicle.

Please help me out if you can.

Thanks,

Hi,

First of all, TCJ thanks will give a ring and see. BTW these are not the same guys who are from UM n have a workshop set up at kadawatha right?

jdnet, well there are a set of problems.

1. recently while driving all of a sudden IO started to knock (no matter how hard i peddle the engine is not revving up, n it came to a halt once or twice as well, then it revs again, and in the next minute it goes down)

My mechanic said it was a blocked fuel filter. And said fuel pump filter has to be changed but the in tank filter can be cleaned. So I allowed him to change the fuel pump filter. (nothing was done to the GDI filter: at least shouldn't he take a look at it?) and when I went for cleaning it to his workshop, he says that its dangerous to clean it blah blah blah.. and he wants me to purchase a new one to be replaced!!!

2. high oil consumption (burns abt 1/2ltr per 100km). This is due to a need of a new ring set. I have ordered this from UM n still waiting for this.

3. the idle issue (the one you checked)

4. gear shifting latency. As per my understanding, there's a sensor at the throttle which triggers the shift downs/ups

Thanks,

from the sound of it it seems like you are having a fuel issue. If there is a lag in the shifting that could be related to it as well. The knocking and stalling too. I would have the GDI pump cleaned up. There isn't anything dangerous about it.

I agree with JDNet.

Also if I were you, I would make a little trip to the "Watte" in Panchikawatte and see if they have your engine lying around. It's not to buy it, but by personal experience I know that when you start getting multiple problems with an engine, at times you can achieve a more reliable and easier and to be honest cheaper fix by swapping the engine. This is particularly true if the vehicle was badly maintained. This is not me recommending you to change the engine or anything, but just to have the option to do so if you need to.

The real reason for my comment is the quality of machine shop work that even reputed places like Edirisinghe does, and they give fairly short warranties on engine rebuilds (it seems in SL reboring is no longer done and everybody opts for re-sleeving and new rings).

If the problem goes away after thoroughly cleaning the GDI pump and filter, then everything is hunky dory. If it doesn't well time for some options.

Hi All,

jdnet, any recommendations for the job?

Don, well when I asked from UM what they said it if the original part (exact oem) is used then there is no need of re boring or any other work. Just replacement would do!!!. They recommended me to get gasket, ring-set.

Also ask for the following replacements:

THRUST BEARING SET,CRANKSHAFT - 1052A442,

BEARING,CRANKSHAFT- 1052A437,

BEARING,CONNROD - MD343138 which is a sort of engine overhaul :)

Thanks,

Thats BS man. The cylinder head always wears off along side the piston rings. You can buy a bit of time replacing just the ring set probably another 50-100k more, but afterwards you will have to do a proper engine overhaul.

Good you are getting the gasket kit and piston ring set as genuine parts though. How much did the items set you back (I'm trying to compare to amayama prices for mine)

  • 4 months later...

Hi All,

Here's an update of so far what I have done.

1. - Replace gasket and ring set with an engine overhaul.

2. - Service the GDI pump as many of you advice - It seems some horse or tube was broken. It had to be replaced

3. - Service and checked the throttle body

4. - Gear box mount replacement

5. - EGR valve blocking

Even after everything the rough idling is still there with high oil consumption (1/2 ltr per 100km!).... Now the next target is the turbo unit :(

The turbo will explain oil consumption but rough idling.......... Having said that my Mitsi also has a nagging idle problem (idle being too high known as idle surge) which I have not yet been able to cure, and one of these days when I'm back in SL I'm going to take the entire system apart and check everything one by one until I understand the entire circuit frankly because nobody else seems to. Once the turbo is sorted let us know what issues are remaining.

My vehicle had the same symptoms, and I was asked to change the petrol filters with no positive result and upon further investigation the fault was in one of the coils. The GDI has 4 four coils (a stick like thing going right down upto each of the plugs). One was malfunctioning by sparking outside. That was changed and the problem was solved.
