Forget The Jag mate... Go for a Toyota... There are so many fancy Toyota's around for that price... Do you know how fuel efficient a Toyota car is??? Fuel gauge get erected when it sees a fuel station and you can drive hundreds of miles without even considering to refill.... So Reading your questions, i believe what really suit you is a Toyota....

Seriously, the mere fact that you are asking the above questions mean that Jags are not for you. Take Trinity's advice. Go for something more mainstream.

looks like a bandwagon eh? i wonder what would happen if trinity actually recommended buying a jag.

just to clarify my post, jags are not bad cars and not cars one should avoid. they are one of the few pleasures a sri lankan car owner can have. but they need to be well looked after. they r not for folks who are worried about maintenance costs, fuel economy and especially availability of cheap counterfeit spares. u need to look for things like service history and ownership history more than anything else.

machan nzer, i saw a lancer overheating few days ago. ought to tell Unit#d Mot#rs that lancers are not cars for sri lanka eh?

to answer your questions

is it advisable to buy one now? : yes. but i advice you not to buy one at any time

are they fuel efficient? : No

Most of the X types around are well maintained cars owned by people who put the "luxury" and "Comfort" before ANY of your concerns about the car

The X type is not the car for you mate.

you can find loads of other cars for the budget and your needs.

Stay Away from the Jaaaaaggsss....:)

Machan what i meant was if a mitsi broke down any or well atleast most garages are capable of fixing it back. But how many garages in srilanka are there that has the tools to fix this? What about spares? This is what i mean. If there was an agent who had ample spares then it would have been ok. But i dont even know if there is an agent for JAG. Also should have seen the lady owners face when the car was steaming :)

Hi Zeristo,

There are a few specialists offering servicing and repairs for Jags and you can find most parts used (ex UK) in the market or with these specialists.

They get about 5-6km/l in the city.

While they don't 'break' as often as people assume (if properly maintained), you can expect fuel pump replacements (45k used/ 110k b.new) depending on the use and the quality of fuel used and routine repairs. The bills only mount when you end up with a neglected car with 7-8 years worth of repairs and the 'don't buy' reputation gets slapped on.

Message me if you need any details or info.

Jeesus what bullshit.STFU if you have nothing valuable to say. There are number of cars that every garage cannot fix.Bimmers,Mercs,Porches and even certain Japs.Yet their owners manage just fine. It's all about what the owner wants. We'll all be driving bloody Corrollas if we were all narrow minded cheapskates like you.

FYI The agent for Jaguar is IWS Holdings...Dumbass!

zeristo,

I went through the entire posts carefully, most members discourage. Only two or three member had given you to go ahead.

Jaguar cars were existing in Ceylon maintained by then Rowlands Garage. They are no more now they are imported by a new dealer on Kandy road.

Previous post conforms their name. They have good service center. Because I have been there number of times for official matters. They have sold few vehicles in past few years. due to high cost.

I think you have to decide get more information do a car maintaining contact in private sector.

I personalty feel this is a prestigious car to use in SL. As for previous two post. I think you have selected if you can effort to maintain same.

My advice is for you to go in for a Jaguar cay which is not more than five to six years old.

Sylvi Wijesinghe.

No nzer, as md said, IWS are the agents. And there are a couple of other guys who do servicing and have enough and more parts. There's one dude in moratuwa, namal, I think. And another advertised in the dailies last week. Namal actually picks up your car and tows it to his garage from anywhere. He's pricey, but then it's not like Stafford does it.

Jags aren't shitty cars, my integra broke down more times than a friends x type in the time we owned them. Parts for the teg were harder to find.

They are now owned by tata, mind you.

In my experience the x was a wonderful car, full of panache and loping grace.

You're right in one thing: this is not a car for OP. he's so much better off with a Prius. I think he just wants a jag to show off. And that's a baaaad reason to buy one!
