Buying a new smartphone

Before Samsung another company release an Android camera, i guess it was Canon

Nikon. And that was a Gingerbread device, this Samsung is running Jellybean. And it definitely isn't in the same league.

Oh god... the last person I expected to give phone advice was Sylvi :)

anyway did someone say its possible to get a galaxy S2 for that price (B/New)? Also Sola looks good.

aren't HTCs in vogue anymore?

I need to buy it from good ol sri lanka. any recommendations for vendors?

U cant get a brand new SGS2 but u can get a mint one i guess.Went to Liberty plaza few days ago checking prices. B/N SGS2 is around 54K. and they said a used one can be found for around 35k.

I have a 3 weeks used galaxy nexus which cost 65k around here and when i asked to trade, they said they can give 30k for it lol..

In SL once the package is broken, things get cheaper! :P

Phone shops usually quote a really low price when buying from us

I think Samsung heard your plea, the Galaxy Camera was launched a few weeks ago. Impressive bit of kit. And nothing stopping the tech from someday working onto a mainstream SLR, tho I expect companies like Sony will lead the charge there.

i saw some pics and reviews, i ignored it thinkings its just a concept :D will be in my to buy list then

Ok so I decided to switch to my sII today for the first time since my wildfire completely crapped out. I have to admit it does look good. So I have a question for you guys. I am trying to install avast anti theft and it says I need to root the phone. I would also like to install ice cream sandwich since it's running gingerbread. Does anyone have a good link to a step by step guide on rooting the phone and putting ice cream sandwich in? I know nothing about this stuff.

edit: BTW this is SII 4G.

Bullsh*t. Unless you get a prepaid phone or unlocked, both of which cost significantly more, you will need to sign a contract. To sign a contract you would need a social security number and address in the U.S IIRC. Also if you break the contract before two years, you will have to pay quite a bit. If you don't pay, you will risk a negative entry into your credit report and collections. I don't think anyone who has a social security number would risk that.

Stop bullsh*tting people ok?

The best part is that he bought a sii earlier this year and a pantec last week.....

Seriously these are the kinds of lies I we would hear from a 7 year old. Not a grown man.

Also, knowing at&t, they wold gang rape you before they let you rip them off. How it usually works is that they rip the customers off.

Aso, I have been with at&T for quite a while and never had to pay this "deposit."

Thank you for the comments.. :medium-smiley-037:

i just shared my experience thinking it might help someone. If its not helping anyone just forget it.. Ohh.. And I had to pay a deposit as i didn't have a long credit history when i bought my 1st phone. :speechless-smiley-004: To break the contract its $350. When i bought my 1st phone i didn't have a US id either other than my SL passport with valid visa.

(Ppl who are on my FB see both the phones with the timeline they were bought..) :)

Anyway ur the pro.. just forget my post.. :sport-smiley-003:

Cheers..

join this site, and search for your phone.

you will get official updates (look for the Kies mark) and instructions are given..

you need to download the latest Odin software to update

and just saying, if you find its too much confusing, better give it to a repaire shop

edit: whats the model number for 4G, that is the international version is known as I9100 so the 4G version will have something like that. and if the above method seems complicated, try this but you might only be able to get 4.0.3 and not 4.0.4

Apparently you need to go through this Kies system. Not sure of the details, didn't pay attention. My Xperia just needed to be plugged into a PC and the PC software handled the whole thing.

I updated to Android v4.0.4 (model Samsung SGH I727). I dnt think my phone i root. All i did was connect to Kies -> Tools ->Firmware Upgrade and Initialization. Then it run through the backup flow, download and update, restart the phone. After that u may have to spend time updating the apps u have installed.. There were some apps i had to update one by one, but most of the apps updated with one click..

Cheers,

Kmeeg.

Just asking a (potentially dumb) question that has been asked elsewhere in the forum as well. I want to get my hands on the SGH I747 model if at all possible and the only option I found (as none of my pals are coming back from US till dec) is to order one through ebay. But getting down phones to SL through ebay does not come recommended mainly due to customs and TRC reasons. Any recent experiences and tips on this? Or is it a big NO still? TIA

Not sure about your particular model, but Samsung's official ICS updates are out for the SII. One of my team is a very happy camper.

the instruction me and shiffer gave is also to get the official ICS

Well It's showing it as GT-I9210T. Android version is 2.3.6.

well if you want to do it the easier way follow this instructions http://whatlaptop.techradar.com/2012/04/how-to-install-ice-cream-sandwich-on-your-samsung-galaxy-s2/ but you will only be able to get 4.0.3

but if you want to get 4.0.4 do this http://synapses.co.za/installing-ice-cream-sandwich-samsung-galaxy-s2/ instead of searching for I9100 as mentioned you go for I9210T

Both 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 are official but 4.0.4 hasnt been released to Sri Lanka yet so you wont be able to get it through Kies( first instruction), theres no harm in using an update that was released for another country as long as it isnt carrier based. I'm running the UK version of 4.0.4 for my I9100

i bet now jdnet is now confused to the max :D

lol tbh the best thing to do is, give the phone to a repair shop and update it.

i searched for a official 4.0.4 release for his model number, and i couldn't find it even in sammobile
