You think they're going to get rid of the ICE that easily? FFS, the ICE is the one biggest limiting factor of the modern day vehicle, which is also what oil companies use to twist the arms of consumers, and by extension the manufacturers. The principle has been largely unchanged since the latter part of the 19th century. Why? Because companies have invested big into reciprocating piston based engines, and they've dug themselves into a nice comfy hole which they're very reluctant to come out of.

There are far better designs out there, which with the proper investment would be vastly superior to a piston engine (consider the rotary engine, the piston engine's biggest threat and why even after 80 years it's little more than a novel idea).

Yes machan. Buy one now and avoid the disappointment. Btw is that a program hosted by a famous car sale mudalali in kandana area?

'Crosswind',

I think you are refering to big Car sale at Walisara according to him (SM). He impoted most number of Hybrid cars.

I think so. And he also runs his own program about cars on a TV channel that many of us wouldn't care to watch. Perhaps it's that program 'Monticarlo' is talking about.

:) Well..I know that Toyota/Nissan/Honda are planning Hybrids for a few additional JDMs eg. they will not sell a JDM diesel LandCruiser + Prado since they are trying to figure out how to make a hybrid version of it and JDM Camry is available only in Hybrid form, whilst there were rumors around last year's Tokyo Motorshow that the next gen JDM RAV4 will have a hybrid (but the latter is just a rumor and no one can place any credit to it until more details are given out later this year). But it doesn't mean that they are going to make ONLY hybrids..with tax incentives for hybrids, a few years ago sales for the Axio dropped in Japan and was surpassed by the Prius (which for sometime was dominated by the Fit Hybrid; the Fit even totally killed the JDM Civic gasoline and hybrid), but Toyota didn't introduce a Hybrid Axio. So no...seriously doubt manufacturers are goign to blindly stick hybrids in EVERYTHING.

Whilst there is a general shift towards making more fuel saving cars but that doesn't mean only hybrids :) I would presume that some models would be available in Hybrid, and gasoline forms and some only in hybrid form at least for the JDM market.

But then again like someone else said..the world is going to end in December anyway so who cares...for those of us who might survive..I am pretty sure there will be enough "thirikkalaya"s around...just make sure to save some cattle along with yourself :)

I don't think the Rotary is a better design than the piston engine (which is why its not really taken off). Rotaries can be used to make very compact petrol engines which has a lot of uses particularly in small aircraft. But they are not as fuel efficient, more prone to consuming oil, expensive to rebuild hence the reason why they didn't become mainstream.

Actually there's a reason behind ICE's still being the primary mode of propulsion of automobiles after more than a century. For instance, battery technology still has a long way to go before electric cars become really practical; hydrogen power is still in its infancy (relatively), and then there's the whole issue of fuel infrastructure. Etc etc... The simple fact of the matter is that looking at the overall picture, the ICE is still the best option out there...which is why it's stuck around for so long, and will be around for a long time to come...

And well there's a reason that the Wankel didn't catch on either...true it's vastly superior to the your run-of-the-mill piston engine in terms of smoothness, high-end power and simplicity. But there are flaws which are inherent to the very nature of how it operates that you can't really overcome...like the lack of low-down torque, and the relatively low engine efficiency due to lack of proper sealing around the rotor.
