Good Place - go to Lal Alawatta, Battaramulla

All that @lawatta does is run the Wurth fuel system cleaner through the injectors after cleaning the throttle body and spark plugs. I personally think that this is a quick but incomplete tune up. He charges something like 7000 (May 2011) for it as well. There is an improvement in the acceleration and smoothness of course, but it’s only for a shorter time as opposed to having a much thorough tune up.

There are places that do ultrasonic injector cleaning + cleaning throttle body and spark plugs and even cleaning the fuel filter for a comparatively reasonable price to @lawatta. I'm not sure of a place around Dehiwala though.

Plus, I wouldn’t recommend an engineer with a bigger attitude than his qualifications and popularity, to anyone (personal experience on two different occasions). I’m sure many others will agree on this point.

Davy,

There are plenty of complains about the person on your post. He has lot of experience working in leading Automobile establishments. But had to leave them due to some of his faults. I don't think he personally do any work now only his assistants do the work. Some are new Mechanics without much experience.

It is always better to go to small garage to do the repairs who is recommended.

You can try Mr Fernando at Kotta Road Borella. He personally handles tune ups for my knowledge.

For a proper ultrasonic cleaning job, go to ASNU Lanka near Talangama Hospital. It will cost about 4000 + cost of plugs and air filter.

I personally do not recommend Lal Alawatta's garage based on personal experience. There is plenty of negative feedback in this forum about Advance and their work in general.

every one talking about the experience, why any one do not share the experience. It will help the new vehicle user like us

I'm using a Carb car, But recently I got my carb cleanning done @ kosgashandiya Carb Banda's son "Shantha". I've never gone their before but few persons told me that he is the best person for the carb repairs.

So he ruined my carbwithin 1 1/2 hours & charges Rs .4500.00 without repair kit cost & petrol for cleanning perpuses. When I explained that peron the situation he told me to replace a new carb. However with the help of a small garage owner just i got my car in to running condition. Therefore never judge a garage/mechaninc only on reputation. Specially new vehicle users like us will fall in to their traps easily.

I would recommend Mario Dias as he is the only person I go to for tuning and infact last week I took my Mazda 3 as well. This is the best place I know as I don't believe in cheap places because you apparently don't get a proper job done and you end up paying alot more afterwards.

new vehicle user like u should also learn to use the search function in the forum. Why do u expect people to repeat the same story to every idiot who joins the forum?

Mate, how much did this M3 job cost (if you don't mind) and was it just injector cleaning and engine tune up?

This is the internet. Much better to put your trust in people you know personally, rather than anonymous internet aliases.

Guys , quick one since the topic came up.

My ride has clocked 20K Kms now , 1NZFE engine. (got her down when she was 16K , and i believe her clock to be genuine) I tend to service her @ Kl**n P**k and these guys wanted me to go for a Fuel system cleaning at the next service which is in another 200km or so. IMO i feel that 20K is a tad too early for a FSC.

She runs daily on 95Oct and the monthly mileage is only around 800Kms. Pardon the pun but i fare a good 10.5-11kms in the city even at the moment with a baby butt smooth ride. ( Dear Axio/ Allion/Premio owners - pls don't start any more arguments on INZ fuel eficiencies. had my fair share at AL in old threads :speechless-smiley-004: )

Can anyone shed some light on the matter pls? and If FSC should be done now what is the best brand you'd recommend?

Sounds like a money grab to me. If your car's running fine leave it well alone: At 20k you've barely broken it in. It certainly isn't at a milage where it should need extensive cleaning, or need any of its components dismantled. If I were you I'd just politely decline.

Possibly related to OP's question - although I don't believe in cheap & good places myself - there are some deals on one of the local deal sites by a prominent garage in townhall area, which actually specializes in tyres and wheels but hv since branched out to other areas.. They offer a 9.5k worth of tune up package (including ultrasonic injector cleaning etc) for 50% discount. Not a known tuning specialist, but it seems they possess the machinery needed and might be worth checking out if you want a value deal ... quality? YMMV!
