Engine Flush

If we changing from one oil type to another ( Eg : Brand / Velocity / SAE Rating ). can we just remove the old oil from sump and fill the new oil?

If it is the same rating as the one before, then you can switch by simply draining the old oil and replacing with new. If its a different rating, I suggest running about 1-2L of the new oil through your system and draining it (basically flushing the system with new oil) before you replace with new oil.

Yeah, it happens at many places. It happened to me at AutoMirage. They were saying the oil has become sticky & all sorts of things just to get me to flush the engine, but I politely declined.

I also have the same experience with the oil changing guy at A*toM*r*aj. Around three months back he forced me to do an engine flush to my FB 15 and I rejected it first in hand. Last Friday I took my newly bought Vitz to the initial service. It was done around 30,000km at the time of import and he made a funny argument that the car was never gone with an engine oil or oil filter change since its manufacture and begged me to do the engine flush. These service station ppl get commision for each deal from the importers of these kind of products. So, don't belive them and get damaged the engine of your vehicle.

  • 3 months later...

Is there any way to change the Engine Oil without doing a Engine flush?

In my case I'm not sure about what my previous owner has used and there is no way to contact him.

So basically I have no way of knowing what he has used. But now i need to change my Engine oil and oil filter.

Mr. Sylvi has posted on Engine Flushing in another thread some time back. May be useful on how he did that:

http://forum.autolan... engine flush

Mr.'DMendis',

That system I used to do in the good old days. Today the new technology has developed and so many new lubricating oils are available. The oil is changed to recommended Kilometers. It is not necessary to flush oil. With my costly method.

I have been using new vehicles so I never did an engine flush for about twenty years. Always change the oil regularly, every time with a new filter.

I think according to my experience and knowledge Engine flush is not necessary with highly developed oils are available if you make the oil changes to the oil makers recommended Kilometers.

I did a web search for Engine flush, found this on the web, like to share same with A/L members.

AMSOIL Engine Flush Procedure

  • Flush diesel or gasoline car or truck engines that have over 30,000 miles of petroleum oil use (do not flush small engines such as hybrids, motorcycles or smaller engines).
  • Warm engine to normal operating temperature.
  • Remove the old oil filter and install a new oil filter. Leave the old/used oil in the engine crankcase.
  • Add 1 bottle of AMSOIL Engine Oil Flush per 5 quart sump capacity, do not over fill above full mark on dipstick. Adjust oil level before adding engine flush.
  • Start engine and run at a fast idle (900 - 950 rpm) for 25 - 30 minutes. Do not drive the vehicle!
  • After the engine has completed the 25 - 30 minute flushing run cycle, immediately shut down the engine and remove the oil filter and drain plug. Let drain for 5 minutes plus.
  • Install a new AMSOIL EaO oil filter and add the appropriate amount AMSOIL engine oil.
  • Test run, check for leaks, and adjust engine oil level if necessary.
  • After the engine has been properly flushed, the AMSOIL engine oils and the EaO oil filters will continue the sludge and deposit cleaning process. I always recommend performing the next oil change at 4,000 miles or before. AMSOIL engine oils are formulated with high detergent additive levels, and the AMSOIL EaO oil filter is designed to filter smaller micron contaminates than other filter brands, the oil and filter will be impacted more during the initial 4,000 miles and need to be replaced.
