Shock Absobers

:speechless-smiley-006: facinating experiences. Well firstly both brands are good. and are used by car manufacturers are OEM parts. like some previous discussions quality and type matters. kyb shocks come from thailand/japan, oil/gas , stock /sports. so choose whats best for your driving conditions, any gas shock gives superioir handling compared to stock but bit hard initially. Do check your springs as if they are sagged they will give a harder ride with the new dampers. :sport-smiley-003:

I think they do! Now if only they had the adjustable tokico illumina whites! Sorted!!

Was at Stafford Monday morning and they told SHOWA (http://www.showa1.com/en) is the OEM for Honda's. and those are bloody expensive when comparing with Tokico and KYB. But its the best according to them.

Though its OEM, they said some recondition models comes with tokico as well,

From what I can see Showa is OEM for Honda bikes not cars......... I think most people in the forum have stated that Tokico is OEM for Honda cars.

They were fixing SHOWA for a Civic that day, and said its OEM, once I asked abt tokico they said some recondition CR-Vs have came with that too.

Perhaps SHOWA also makes shock absorbers for cars as well. Maybe Stafford are the agents for SHOWA and trying to promote the brand.

i got tokico's from Teck Motors panchikawatte.it is complete shit.even before 5 months i had to replace all the shocks.apparently some one told me that there two qualities of Tokico shocks and may be Teck sells the not so good one.my advice would be to go for original kyb's from TAAS

tokico's were given to me for 24k.its a bit discounted cuz i bought all four.Machan are u crazy buy KYB from them? TAAS said they'll give me all four for 28k if i pay by cash.plus when u have the dealer, why do u need to go to teck?? What really happened to me was, when i had the shock absorber issue one of the mechs from stafford told me to go for tokico instead of KYB because they are the original shock makers for honda.and he told KYB is too stiff for the ride and it will make it bumpy.hence i went for tokico which was an utter flop.my rear gave a "daka daka" sound when i was using them.so i swapped the rear ones to KYB and it was all fine!

Used both types in the past and now running with second hand original shocks . There is massive difference in ride comfort when compare them to brand new kyb and tokico. I too felt that the both the kyb and tokico were not that comfortable( may be they sell some low quality alternative here).

Well.. for some they have told tokico is the OEM, and for me they told its SHOWA, But for some tokico has not done the trick, so I think its better to look for showa as well, dunno whether anyone imports them apart from stafford.

Exactly, to be honest I have not heard of people being dissatisfied with Tokico. The problem is since each model is sold in different markets there are a number of compatible products from the manufacturer, and you need to select the one that matches the original that was there in the vehicle.

To be honest do a search of SHOWA in Google, all you get is information on Honda motor cycle shock absorbers. But it's your money your decision.

Well..that prvnrox guy and H.C guy is not happy with tokico, since SHOWA significantly expensive than tokico and KYB (SHOWA is around 20K at Satfford), can that be better ....???

Well some people will never be happy :) The point is their expectation from Shock absorbers. The problem is not brand, is is which version. When I went to buy Shock absorbers for my Mitsubishi there were at least 3 compatible versions at the agents for KYB, and I am sure there are actually many more versions though they didn't tell me that. And of course they did not show me their product catalog either and I was forced to select from the three that was available.

Also brand new shocks are always going to be harder than used old shocks, and if they are not pressurized properly before installation the problem will be worse.

I see no reason to abandon tried and tested brands like Tokico and KYB just because Stafford has decided to import another brand of Shock absorbers. And brands like KYB are used even in European vehicles not just Japanese.

Showa is unlikely to be "better" than KYB or Tokico, but the version Stafford has might be more compatible with the models they sell. But somebody will have to spend heaps of money and test the theory.

yeah it needs to be tested by someone who has used KYB and Tokico before, hope will find one before I need to change my shocks. anyway dunno why SHOWA is that much expensive (maybe its just because Stafford selling it :speechless-smiley-004: )

Actually in my case , i got those shocks almost 3y back with limited knowledge on cars. Most probably Ive got a set of low quality stuff or fake ones. I think douglas hav original shocks like blue hp series tokicos and they may much better than tech motor ones. Edited by H.C

It seems that not just the brand ,but the garage that you got them fixed is much impoartant............

Any good places in Colombo/Kelaniya/gampaha area for shock replacement..........I'm really planing on changing mine to Tockiko tomorrow.....

gas shocks will give you more comfort. oil shocks are heavy duty not comfortable than gas shocks. for the cars gas once are good

Don't mislead people Nilantha, the truth is the complete opposite. When it comes to conventional shock absorbers (and we're not talking air suspension here), Gas shock absorbers are more heavy duty than oil shock absorbers and are a bit stiffer so not as comfortable, but lasts longer.

Yes, Gas shocks somtimes give bumpy feelings at low speeds , but stable at high speeds. Oil shocks are more comfortable

specially at low speeds, however short live.
