Customs Duty For Bringing Led Tv To Sri Lanka

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am going to buy a LED TV 40" from Japan.

I hope to use it here some time and then bring to Sri Lanka when I return.

Anyone have any idea about how much I will have to pay as tax or duty?

Also I want to know whether I can bring it as my luggage.

You might be able to use your duty free allowance in which case no duty and you can bring it as your luggage. In my experience the customs are very lenient on items bought for personal use as long as you are not taking the piss!

I've seen loads of guys bringing TV's in both luggage and baggage from BKK and SIN. Didn't seem to hv any issue with the customs, though the price might hv been more than their (187) allowance.

My parents and sister (travelling together) took a 40" TV to SL from Singapore without any issues (or having to pay tax)... If you look like someone legit and not trying to do some business you should be ok...

If he returning after 1 year, then no taxes for that. Normally he can carry that as his check-in language but most of airline charges oversize fees for that since total dimensions greater than 60 inch. (length + height + width ) not TV size.

Confirming this is correct.

The TV will have to be declared at customs.
