Elite Viva Fuel Consumption

Rajitha Kumarage

Question

I am using a Viva Elite 1000CC MT. Just done 1250 km. I'm usually driving in traffic. (Not heavy traffic). It does only 11-12 per liter. (in 1st 1000km, I never exceed 2500 rpm since the car is brand new). When i ask from Unimo, they say that the rates will increase with the mileage and they also checked the exhaust emission level and it was perfect. And I also notice that it is difficult to drive with 90 oct petrol (There was a little knock in the start). Then I tried with 93 oct (IOC - Extra premium) and it seems better. Please advice me on this.

Hi to all, further to my post dated 25 January 2012, I would like to post that I was able to record 18km/l with full time Air Con in my Viva. ( its in Auto trans. mode)

I made a 400km drive (up & down) to Sigiriya from Colombo.

My Colombo usage is in the range of 10-12 km/l

What I don't understand is why are you people so into getting more Km/L ? The Viva does about 10 in the city to be honest and please try to live with it..... Other cars don't do much on petrol so be happy about it..... I personally like the 1.5 L 4 cyllinder engines... My wife has a viva but the honestly it is only a car to travel from Place A to B in Colombo. not to go on the highway they don't corner and dont accelerate. I hate driving it.

Fuel Economy (Perodua Viva Elite - Automatic Transmission)

Since the day I bought my Perodua Viva Elite (bought brand new from Unimo on 24th May 2011 ) , I maintained fuel pumping records and checked fuel economy continuously. I always do full tank fuel pumping only .

Recently I completed 15,000km and just had a look on my average fuel economy.

Basic details are as follows.

Car Make & Model : Perodua Viva Elite & Standard Auto (YOM-2011)

Transmission : Automatic

Engine : Daihatsu EJ-VE, 1000cc with DVVT

Number : WPKM-8XXX

Usage: My one is mostly a City Runner. Rarely travels outside the city.

Since November 2011, it is a daily runner (Ganemulla to Fort and back) .

Morning it takes about 45 - 55 minutes to travel 22km & evening it takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to travel 22km due to traffic congestion.

Always use A/C while driving.

Fuel Pumping: I always do full tank fuel pumping only.

I started with Ceypetco 90 Octane Petrol, but when the inferior quality fuel problem arose, my one started to give engine knock. Unit#d Mot#rs guys cleaned the spark plugs and checked running with 95 Petrol and problem solved. So I transferred to IOC Euro 3 petrol.

After 15,000km done, figures were as follows.

Distance traveled = 15,164.4 km

Used fuel (petrol) quantity = 1,347.83 liters

Average fuel economy = 11.251 km/l

Ever highest fuel economy = 15.12 km/l (02.09.2011 from Ganemulla to Kalutara)

Ever lowest fuel economy = 9.89 km/l (04.04.2012)

Used fuel quantity and value:

RON 90 - 293.26 liters - Rs.37,205.88

RON 95 - 126.71 liters - Rs. 18,948.00

Extra Premium / Euro 3 - 927.86 liters - Rs. 143,692.70

Total = 1,347.83 liters - Rs. 199,846.58

Average fuel cost per km = Rs. 13.18 (with A/C)

02092012fueleconomy.jpg

Still I didn't have opportunity to travel on Southern Highway.

One of my friends has a Viva Elite Standard Auto (same as mine) and he too continuously checking fuel economy same as me. He achieved 17km + (with A/C & 2 pax) while travelling on Southern Highway. He also achieved 18km + (without A/C & 2 pax) on Southern Highway.

However fuel economy depends on driving pattern too. (Here except 150km rest is driven by me).

My personal experience is when driving at constant speed around 80km/h, fuel economy is very high, but unable to achieve in city running.

I believe this method is more accurate than calculating fuel economy by looking digits of the digital fuel meter.

I use the android app 'FuelLog'

I looked this thing up out of boredom. The really interesting thing when I hit Play Store, there are Android ODB reader apps. You might remember I posted that thing where some sound chaps in California were fitting a Nexus 7 as the entertainment center on a Dodge? Hooking that tab into a ODB port... Surely some intriguing possibilities there.

It is a real life example of the mindset of typical Sri Lankan Viva Elite Owner. It is no surprise, they even run on empty tank to see how far they can go with the warning light on.

This is a practice followed by van owners in the old days who had a driver and hired it out for occasional trips.

I don't see the issue in maintaining a fuel log. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't receive this flak had he used fuelly.com instead.

hmmm

lets you track, share, and compare your gas mileage

Must sound like a wet dream come true of a whole buncha folk out there.

But to explain my pov, it was the amount of details and the followup excel sheets and graphs. Thats a lot of work. If it was just like the Android app, which you only enter one or two parameters and the app has the other features, thats not excessive.

Thanks guys for your lovely comments.

Thanks Supra-Natural for reminding me to do some meaningful thing.

Thanks, Dr.Pericles, your finding is really great and it is confirmed that I am suffering OCD. Otherwise I would have paid a lot for doctors and for hospitals.

Frankly telling, I don’t have deep knowledge on motor mechanic or automotive industry. So I can’t advise to others , like Don, Harshan , Varuntech…….and other experts do. So what I did in the forum is only sharing my experiences and catalogs I have.

Even Autolanka being an automotive forum, I have seen some members are discussing non-automotive subjects such as fountain pens, computer……etc.

But when a member posted his own experience related to an automotive topic , some members are hitting on it…..

I know some members/moderators are very much like to remind the end of the human digestive system and solid and gas wastes coming out there. Also they think that they are posting valuable information for other members or doing a great moderating job.

Another thing I really observe in Autolanka forum is that some members post useless comments to increase their post count.

After reading this post guys can hit on me as they wish, but I won’t reply more on this matter.

I always prefer “Uphasaya” and not go for “Apahasaya”

Anyway guys, I have to leave now, because I have to beg some money to pump fuel to my poor Viva Elite.

Cheers. :)

Hi Sampath,

I can remember i also calculated the average fuel consumption when i had Viva. Sure it was a good saving. But now i got to know that Viva cost more than 2Mil?? In my opinion i dnt think that Viva is worth 2Mil. (I just said that because i had Viva 660MT & Viva Elite MT in the past, and its just my opinion)

What i'm trying to tell is the cost saved on fuel against the money that spent on the car (Ex - the loan or lease interest for 2mil + against the fuel saving). I really doubt that.

Also just wondering that can you sell the used Viva more than the brand-new price like early days?

Please let me know if i'm wrong. What i think is for the ppl who bought Viva for 1.3mil - 1.5mil are the ppl who really made a good investment. Ppl who buy now are not that lucky..:)

Rgs,

Kmeeg.

I can't speak for everyone but not everyone cares about the post count. There are peope here with less than 300-400 posts that we would listen to than some other with 1000+posts and XX years of experience. If you're that keen on simply increasing your post count just visit the one-word-thread. You can help yourself too :)

Being an Engineer you are bound by "Engineering Ethics" to practice professional conduct which includes addressing politely to stakeholders of your organization.

Exemption: of course if your not a member of any professional engineering body such as IET, IESL or IEEE you need not to practice professional conduct. At the same time you are not a professional engineer and you are just a laymen bearing a systems engineer designation
